@chockaholic2020 Not really a swamp. It is marshy but the root of the word means small stream.

@hippyjoe1955 how did the root of the word bayou mean a small stream? I have streams everywhere around where i live but we dont call them bayous. Maybe they are a small stream in a swamp. What exactly is a swamp? Im gonna have to google it. I like linguistics

Look at the wikipedia article and check the etymology.

Not necessarily a swamp. It could be a creek in parts of Louisiana and coastal Texas.
