many decades ago the ymca promoted naturism by NOT allowing boys to wear any clothing on camping trips

I know clothing on boys was prohibited for all swimming from 1926 to 1962 at all public schools and YMCA's. I didn't hear about the camping trips.

I have the swimming part in my nudist post toward the end of it...

Interesting. I was a summer camp counselor at a YMCA camp in 1961and everyone wore clothes. At the in town YMCA indoor pool it was required naked swimming. We never took the kids to that facility. At the camp though, where we swam in a lake, it was always with bathing suits.

@Heartlander i learned this thru biography of several people. going back to 1920's .

@samueltyler2 The in town, indoor pool was male only.I believe the reasoning was that swimsuits could potentially contaminate the water. Naked swimmers were required to shower first. At the summer camp which was 10 miles away, it was also all male except for a female camp nurse. There was never a mention of nudity for the kids and I doubt that parents would be inclined to send their 10 year old kids to a nude summer camp. Some of the older counselors did skinny dip at the lake at night. Most referred to it as a refreshing break in the hot summer. I declined the skinny dip sbecause my day job there was as a swimming instructor so drifted more towards bridge with the camp nurse for night entertainment.

@Heartlander Se swam nude, mandatory, in high school in the pool, women had suits given to them. i have no idea what led to that. the woman that gave us our towels knew each of us well! She would say to the freshman, who showed embarrassment, I have seen bigger and better.

Weird. Reads a lot like a documentary I saw about the Boy Scouts of America. Plus it seem rather unwise to not have protection from the outdoors.

Feeling strangely nostalgic 😳
