@RedFlower It is totally normal and human. Loving parents sympathize and definitely don't want you to struggle hard to keep your feelings inside.

I'm a little confused. Like all small kids, I cried whenever I was spanked, but why does "reducing us to tears" make us "understood what we did (done) wrong"?

Spanking is/was a painful affair overall. How many parents (and I'm sure there are many) threaten during the spanking or just after, "I'll give you something to cry for!"? The spanking person doesn't always deliver the punishment on the spot, but discovers the misdeed a little later, and THEN the sore bottom is given out. There are times kids don't get spanked right away, and they think that they got away with something - that is, until the parent or other grownup discovers what was done/said. This happened to me a few times, and the spanking I got later was twice as hard.

I never said it WAS. Did you read the site heading. the original writer's post, and my original reply? I didn't enjoy spankings and did my best to avoid one when I got them as a kid. I was sympathizing with the person who wrote and tried to make her understand there is nothing wrong with crying after an experience applied to your bottom. Sure, I cried and cried buckets, but tears are a natural response to pain.
