Have you ever phoned 911 by accident. And then tell the arriving cops it was a mistake

I've done it twice. I dialed directory assistance wrong but the cops still have to show up and check the whole house to make sure the bad guys didn't tell you to call them off and say you dialed wrong.

One of my kids dialed it as a toddler and made some goofy kid noises before hanging the phone up. They called back immediately, and I was like “yeah….the kid did it….everyone is fine.” She told me I’d be surprised how often that happens. This was in the 90’s when we still had regular phones with preprogrammed numbers. I was making breakfast and didn’t even see him grab the phone.

@beermeplease The phone actually came with all these presets with little icons. One was for an emergency, and one was a pizza icon. There was also a movie reel button to check showtimes and a time and temp button back when you called for that. I’ve always been a gadget guy, so I programmed the whole lot of them.
