I honestly didn't know this was a thing?
But you're a citizen here if you're born here.
sunsporter1649 · 70-79, M
@Justmeraeagain Rewarding criminal behavior is acceptable to you, eh
Justmeraeagain · 56-60, F
@sunsporter1649
I did not say that I made a statement of fact.
I rarely give a political opinion cuz I don't find fighting on the internet for hours that much fun.
I leave that for others

My neighbor was a fireman, he told me that they used to deliver these babies all the time.
The people would call 911 because they didn't have insurance or any prenatal care, they would deliver the baby and then an ambulance ride to the hospital.
Guess who gets to pay for that?
DogMan · 61-69, M
The United States remains one of the most sought-after destinations for birth tourism in 2026, largely due to its constitutional protection of jus soli, or birthright citizenship. Under the 14th Amendment, any child born on US soil, regardless of the parents’ nationality or legal status, is automatically granted US citizenship.
Waveney · M
@beckyromero I think what I meant was that the child’s PARENTS could still be deported and, by extension, the child.
Jenny1234 · 56-60, F
@Waveney but that same child can move to the USA and sponsor their parents. That’s what they do
beckyromero · 36-40, F
@Waveney
I think what I meant was that the child’s PARENTS could still be deported and, by extension, the child.

And I meant EXACTLY what I said:

"A natural born American citizen can NOT legally be deported."
trollslayer · 51-55, M
I wouldn’t have a big problem with an end or redefining of birthright citizenship - so long as it went through the constitutional amendment process.
samueltyler2 · 80-89, M
@fanuc2013 there was no such thing at the time. We accepted any who passed a physical exam once they arrived here.
beckyromero · 36-40, F

I would have a problem with it. Which is why I am glad it is so difficult to amend the Constitution.

If the votes in Congress and the state legislatures (for ratification) were there to strip out that Amendment, there would be votes to strip out other rights Americans take for granted. It wouldn't be America any more.
trollslayer · 51-55, M
@beckyromero thinking about this further - i see your point. The amendment process is difficult and I thought that if it passed that then the vast majority of americans and states want to change birthright citizenship and that is why we have an amendment process. Then I thought about prohibition…
GerOttman · 70-79, M
I think they get a free waffle maker or a beach towel or something.
happens in canada too
@Waveney nope
AthrillatheHunt · 56-60, M
@beermeplease ever seen 2 old Chinese ladies yelling at each other over who gets the recyclables from a garbage can ? I have. It ain’t pretty.
Waveney · M
@beermeplease Hang on sorry, you mean "nope" they don't have to attend ESL classes or "nope" they also have to attend English language classes even if their parents are White English, say?
Midlifemale · 61-69, M
I hope that law passes that says just because you gave birth here, DOES NOT MEAN you are a US citizen unless your parents are
samueltyler2 · 80-89, M
@Midlifemale do you not understand the 14th amendment is the law of the land? SCOTUS just reconfirmed that fact!

It’s even got a name : birth tourism
AbbeyRhode · F
Because our treasonous government allows the anchor babies to enable the illegal parents to stay here and collect freebies, while American citizens struggle. 😠
akindheart · 70-79, F
so that their kids can be US citizens which is so wrong
DogMan · 61-69, M
@akindheart Does it make both parents citizens?
samueltyler2 · 80-89, M
@DogMan no
Waveney · M
Exactly. Why?
