The United States remains one of the most sought-after destinations for birth tourism in 2026, largely due to its constitutional protection of jus soli, or birthright citizenship. Under the 14th Amendment, any child born on US soil, regardless of the parents’ nationality or legal status, is automatically granted US citizenship.
Jenny1234 · 56-60, F
@Waveney but that same child can move to the USA and sponsor their parents. That’s what they do
beckyromero · 36-40, F
@Waveney
I think what I meant was that the child’s PARENTS could still be deported and, by extension, the child.

And I meant EXACTLY what I said:

"A natural born American citizen can NOT legally be deported."
Waveney · M
@Jenny1234 21 years later, maybe.

DogMan · 61-69, M
Nordic countries (Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Norway, Sweden) do not grant automatic birthright citizenship based on birthplace alone; all rely primarily on jus sanguinis, meaning a child becomes a citizen only if at least one parent is a citizen. This applies across Norway, Denmark, and Sweden, with only narrow exceptions (e.g., abandoned infants).
Overview: No Jus Soli in the Nordic Region
All five Nordic countries follow citizenship by descent, not by birthplace. Children born in the territory to non‑citizen parents do not receive citizenship automatically.

If you lefties really want to be like the Nordic states, you need to adopt the other things.

Nordic states also fight fraud heavily, unlike U.S. Democrats
RedBaron · M
@DogMan But none of that addresses his inability and refusal to admit that he lost the election and be a statesman and concede LIKE EVERY LOSING CANDIDATE IN EVERY PRIOR ELECTION instead of being a crybaby and trying to sabotage the processes of certification and transition.
DogMan · 61-69, M
@RedBaron I have not heard him talk about it. It sounds like you are the only one crying about.

Get over it.
RedBaron · M
@DogMan He’s still obsessed with it almost six years later. He’s the one who hasn’t gotten over it. And you all bought into his lies hook, line, and sinker.
Adrift · 61-69, F
My neighbor was a fireman, he told me that they used to deliver these babies all the time.
The people would call 911 because they didn't have insurance or any prenatal care, they would deliver the baby and then an ambulance ride to the hospital.
Guess who gets to pay for that?
trollslayer · 51-55, M
I wouldn’t have a big problem with an end or redefining of birthright citizenship - so long as it went through the constitutional amendment process.
RedBaron · M
@DogMan I don’t owe you any explanation. I’m just saying that this is the right, not the left, attempting to strip people of their rights.

Be careful what you wish for.
DogMan · 61-69, M
@RedBaron So every person on the planet should have the same rights as Americans?

We are told everyday how bad America is, but everyone still wants to be here, why is that?
RedBaron · M
@DogMan Because we’re a great country. What else do you want me to say?
GerOttman · 70-79, M
I think they get a free waffle maker or a beach towel or something.
AthrillatheHunt · 56-60, M
@GerOttman more like free housing , cell phones , clothing allowances , education etc..
happens in canada too
@Waveney nope
AthrillatheHunt · 56-60, M
@beermeplease ever seen 2 old Chinese ladies yelling at each other over who gets the recyclables from a garbage can ? I have. It ain’t pretty.
Waveney · M
@beermeplease Hang on sorry, you mean "nope" they don't have to attend ESL classes or "nope" they also have to attend English language classes even if their parents are White English, say?
Midlifemale · 61-69, M
I hope that law passes that says just because you gave birth here, DOES NOT MEAN you are a US citizen unless your parents are
samueltyler2 · 80-89, M
@Midlifemale do you not understand the 14th amendment is the law of the land? SCOTUS just reconfirmed that fact!

Because our treasonous government allows the anchor babies to enable the illegal parents to stay here and collect freebies, while American citizens struggle. 😠
AthrillatheHunt · 56-60, M
It’s even got a name : birth tourism
akindheart · 70-79, F
so that their kids can be US citizens which is so wrong
DogMan · 61-69, M
@akindheart Does it make both parents citizens?
samueltyler2 · 80-89, M
@DogMan no
Justmeraeagain · 56-60, F
I honestly didn't know this was a thing?
But you're a citizen here if you're born here.
sunsporter1649 · 70-79, M
@Justmeraeagain Rewarding criminal behavior is acceptable to you, eh
Justmeraeagain · 56-60, F
@sunsporter1649
I did not say that I made a statement of fact.
I rarely give a political opinion cuz I don't find fighting on the internet for hours that much fun.
I leave that for others
akindheart · 70-79, F
@Justmeraeagain its a BIG thing. they will literally go into labor on the hospital steps. it is horrible.
Waveney · M
Exactly. Why?
sunsporter1649 · 70-79, M
