They have repeatedly claimed that Clark became the biggest star in women's basketball because she is a straight White woman.
"We would all be very naive if we didn’t say race and her sexuality played a role in her popularity. While so many people are happy for Caitlin’s success, including the players, this has had such an enormous impact on the game, there is a part of it that is a little problematic because of what it says about the worth and the marketability of the players who are already there," Hill told the Los Angeles Times in 2024.

If I were Catlin Clark, I would take my talents to a European league. It probably won't be easy but at least she'll get the respect she deserves. Right now, she is the WNBA's golden goose and they are treating her like a piece of human debris. If she leaves, the WNBA deserves to sink.

Caitlin Clark has transformed attention and commercial appeal for the WNBA, yet faces coordinated resistance rooted in race and optics. It contends the league and some opponents have sought to curb her impact, despite her ability to drive ticket sales and viewership. An on-court incident involving Clark drew attention only after online backlash. The narrative frames the backlash as a clash between a historic sport’s identity and a white star breaking through, with the future tense pointing to ongoing scrutiny and pressure on Clark and the league.

Oh yeah for sure...those black girls hate her.

There was some pretty intense hostility when Jackie Robinson broke the status quo in MLB from both fans and players. Unfortunately we haven't really come very far.
Edit: I'm talking about both races. All races actually

ESPN analyst Monica McNutt accused young White girls of gravitating toward Clark because she is White. Stephen A. Smith made similar arguments. So did Shannon Sharpe, "The View," USA Today and the New York Times, along with numerous current and former players.
Several of those same players have also accused Clark of benefiting from "white privilege" because she refuses to speak publicly about alleged racism against Black women in the WNBA. Angel Reese even posted a TikTok mocking Clark as a "white girl afraid to catch the fade," alongside a photo of herself confronting Clark.
Last summer, ESPN published a remarkably irresponsible article portraying Clark's fan base as racially threatening. The author described attending a Fever-Sun game where she noticed a fan wearing a MAGA hat. She never explained why that constituted racism. Instead, she concluded the atmosphere itself felt threatening.

And straight . That’s like 2 strikes by WNBA standards

There could be some at play. I don't know enough to say there is institutional racism, where the system itself is creating barriers. But it's certainly possible for prejudice to take root in other players and fans. But there's the question whether race is the primary driver or a ride-a-long for regular envy and jealousy against a skilled novice player stealing spotlight.
It's there. But hard to tell to what degree.

@ViciDraco Well, the optics are that the Black players are conspiring to injure and hurt Caitlin Clark so it certainly looks race related.
DogMan · 61-69, M
@SumKindaMunster Oh No we are told that there is no such racism if it involves white people.
AdmiralPrune · 46-50, M
Undoubtedly.
Racism against whites certainly exists. It’s just not fashionable to talk about it apparently.

@SumKindaMunster Which is in itself a racist sentiment.
