Attention Seniors

Are you exercising regularly? Some of the indicators that you are falling behind are:

1. Can you stand up from a chair without using your hands? If you can't, you have a problem.

if you cannot it means you have weak legs and you are in danger of falling. Please practice
every day. All it takes is 10 sit stands without using your hands. Add in calf raises in order
in order to strengthen your feet, ankles and calves. This will help you walk better and have
better balance.

2. Can you walk backwards 10 steps in a straight line? If not you may have cognitive problems.

3. Can you balance on one foot for 30 seconds without holding on? The more you practice
the better your balance will be.

Another advantage of doing calf raises, besides balance and lower leg strength, according to
many heart doctors it also helps circulate blood through the body. Some refer to the calf
muscles as the second heart because of the way it pumps blood back up through the body.

My sister had large blueish calves when she was sedentary, after doing calf raises for a while
the pink color came back and they reduced in size. A while after that she was worried that she
now had BUMPS on the back of her lower leg. When I looked at them
I burst out laughing. For the first time in her life at 73 she now had visible calf muscles.

I like both the sitting and standing calf raise machines at the gym. Managed to turn my calfs into cows!

@PatKirby Yes, they work the calves a little different. It also helps to stretch the calves before, after
and in between sets. Those are the toughest muscles in the body.
