Excellent advice. But of course I can do all of 'em - more or less, heh heh 😁
DogMan · 61-69, M
@PatKirby Nice, I think I saw that one. I watch a lot on You Tube. Get ideas, a lot of fun stuff too.

Exercise you enjoy, is the best exercise.

The one I struggle with is not using my hands to get up off the floor.
I have safety wire wrapped around my kneecap
after I broke it in 3 pieces 40+ years ago. It has a couple breaks in the wire already,
but it doesn't hinder me too much.

Magenta · F
Yes and yes I can do those, although my balance isn't the best.
And if you want to improve your brains neuroplasticity and improve memory and focus, plus a ton of other benefits, mountain bike!
DogMan · 61-69, M
@Magenta At 66 I still ride dirt bikes offroad. Just like mountain biking, it does improve
focus. To ride offroad requires a lot of intense focus.
Keep up the good work, but be careful. 🙂

Great post! My recommendation is simple. Pilates. Try it!! It's fastastic and addresses everything in this short list and much more. You'll gain core strength, balance, confidence and overall health improvements.
DogMan · 61-69, M
@carpediem Yes, I do some pilate stuff. I tell people that the best exercise is the exercise
that you enjoy doing. It has to be consistent above all. I love going to the gym, been a gym
guy for the past 45 years. But it's not for everyone.

You Tube has thousands of exercises for seniors. We all need to stay active everyday.
Inactivity is the worst disease of all.
akindheart · 70-79, F
yes i can and yes i am working out at the gym 3 times per week and one of those days with a personal trainer
DogMan · 61-69, M
@akindheart That's great to hear. Listen to your body, if you can add an extra day, do so.

I go 5 days a week, but I do a lot of other stuff that gives me Zone minutes. Do you have a FitBit?

I don't track steps anymore, I track Zone minutes and Sleep mostly.
Gibbon · 70-79, M
I have been struggling with #1 since I went in the hospital with pneumonia. Being too sedentary before hand. My own fault.
DogMan · 61-69, M
@Gibbon You can improve Gib. Start slow. Find a nice place to walk daily, even if you have to
drive to get there. Also get a block of wood and do calf raises. It will help a lot.

Practice those things every day, I guarantee it will help you. The Sit/Stand is HUGE for leg
strength.

My 73 year old sister broke her back a could years ago. Very sedentary before. I gave her some
exercises to do. She loves calf raises ( I made her a cool little calf block ) her balance has
improved a lot.
Gibbon · 70-79, M
@DogMan I have all the exercises I did with the therapist. It's hard to get motivated when I get tired as soon as I start. At least I'm forcing myself out of this chair many times a day. You have no idea how much I'm pushing myself to do that. But I'm not going backwards just damn slow moving forward. It's a head thing for me.
DogMan · 61-69, M
@Gibbon Keep pushing yourself Gibbon, not too much, but if you put the work in
you will get results. Try taking some Creatine. We should all take it. It helps the mind
and the muscles. Do a little research on it. It is one of the most studied supplements.
DrWatson · 70-79, M
The first two are easy for me.

But thanks for the reminder that I need to do balance exercises. I came to that conclusion last year but I have been a slouch about doing anything about it.
DogMan · 61-69, M
@DrWatson Keep at it Doc, do those basics I mentioned and find activities that get your heart rate up.

On weekends I do yard work and get a lot of exercise. Mowing, Raking, shoveling. All good stuff.
DogMan · 61-69, M
Have a great weekend everyone. Get out there and sweat. Well, unless it's freezing>

It's going to be in the 60's here in the desert southwest
