The left seems to think Red state governors run Blue cities.
Last time I looked, gun control laws (or lack thereof) were set at the state level. City mayors simply don't have the legislative powers to set stricter gun control laws.
And stricter gun control laws correlate strongly with lower gun violence rates.

WOW! Cities in blue states tend to be safer!! Proving that gun safety laws work!!
@CougarLisa https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8bVT3TnBt2Q President Trump is now publicly demanding stricter gun control. The president met with senators at the White House on Wednesday and told them he'd even support bypassing due process to take guns from the mentally ill
@sunsporter1649 mentions immigration laws; forgets all about asylum laws. Here lemme fill you in.
8 U.S.C. § 1158 Asylum (a) Authority to apply for asylum (1) In general Any alien who is physically present in the United States or who arrives in the United States (whether or not at a designated port of arrival and including an alien who is brought to the United States after having been interdicted in international or United States waters), irrespective of such alien's status, may apply for asylum in accordance with this section or, where applicable, section 1225(b) of this title.
For decades, US immigration law and policy was designed to spit in the eye of Fidel Castro by treating everyone who set foot on Florida as an asylum seeker. This helped earn votes from a swing demographic in a swing state.
And, by law, people at the border can STILL request asylum. And it's a long involved process and they get entry awaiting their decision in 12 or 24 months.
That's the law. That's the law that needs fixing. AND, the Senate, in early 2024, produced a bipartisan bill to greatly streamline the asylum process. You remember what happened to that bill, right? Trump squashed it. The asylum issue has a fix and Trump doesn't want it implemented. SAD!
Trump blocked the bipartisan bill to keep the border as a campaign issue. He DAMAGED America for the sake of his campaign.
@DogMan (1) Cherry picking; even with the outlier Chicago, the averages still hold.
(2) Chicago is a 1 hour bus ride from Gary Indiana with lax gun laws.

@ElwoodBlues Chicago continues to struggle with a spate of weekend shootings that have left multiple people dead and several wounded. According to NBC Chicago, a 21-year-old man was fatally shot in the Garfield Park neighborhood Saturday. Another man, 29, was also injured when a suspect opened fire on them as they stood on the sidewalk in the 100 block of South Pulaski at around 2 p.m., with the younger victim later dying from wounds to the groin and torso. The older victim, shot in both arms, was in fair condition at an area hospital.
Over the weekend, a grim tally rose as three people were killed and at least ten others suffered gunshot wounds, reported by CBS News Chicago. The ages of those hit in the gunfire ranged from 16 to 49. Shootings were widespread, with incidents occurring from the South Side to the West Side, underscoring a persistent challenge for the city's policymakers and law enforcement.
On Friday evening, police found two men shot, one fatally, with a gunshot wound to the head inside an apartment on the 900 block of West 85th Street. Another man was found in an alley, his body also bearing the last messages of violence. He was taken to Christ Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. As of now, no arrests have been made in these incidents, which adds to the bleak sense of unfinished business in the city's quest to curb gun violence.
Elsewhere on Saturday, in the 3900 block of South Kedzie Avenue, the Chicago Police Department responded to a shooting involving an ICE agent. According to the Department of Homeland Security, the federal agent shot a woman after their vehicle was reportedly rammed by other cars in Brighton Park. Although the Chicago Police Department was on the scene to provide safety and manage traffic, they indicated they were not involved in the incident's investigation: "CPD said they were not involved in the incident or its investigation," as stated by CBS News Chicago.
