May is Military appreciation month

We should all appreciate our brave military. Not only do they protect us, and other countries
around the world, but they also produce good, disciplined, hardworking people, that are
an asset to the civilian world.

Hire a military veteran.

Hire a military veteran.

Didn't you read read the memo? Trump has banned all "DEI hirings" 😞

While there are certainly some good, disciplined, hardworking former service people, there is also a sizeable minority who struggle to adapt to the civilian world and lead utterly chaotic and self-destructive lives. I should know, my late dad was among them.

@SunshineGirl Good Lord! 🙄 Hiring a Vet is not considered a DEI hire. The % of destructive lives is no higher
among ex-military, than it is civilians.

It may be different, if the person was in battle and couldn't deal with the trauma, but most deal with it just fine.

I'm sorry your dad struggled with it. My dad went through horrible front line fighting in Italy, had nightmares
off and on his whole life, but he was a normal guy when he was awake. His best friend that went through
the war with my dad, was never the same. It has to be hard to take a life. From what I have read, they
had to use bayonets in many of the battles.

@DogMan What you mean is that you don't consider it to be a DEI hire.

Ex-service personnel, especially from the lowest ranks, are disproportionately likely to find themselves long term homeless or suffering from poor mental health. I would be delighted if employers made special accommodation to hire these people and turn around their lives.

@SunshineGirl That's nice, but why do you think there are a disproportionate number of Vets suffering from
mental health problems, then the general public? I know a lot of military veterans, and they are all
successful after the military.

Years ago, I worked with homeless guys. Not as an advocate, but as a co-worker. I drank beer with them after
work on payday. None of the ones I met, or worked with, had been in the military.

I do know, that just because a guy has a sign that says Homeless Veteran, it does not mean he served.

A big reason many people are homeless, is because they do not like to take orders, they live a life free
of doing what others expect them to do. Very few are on the street because of something bad that
happened to them. The worst cases are women with children, whose husband took off and abandoned
them. Most of the other people have made bad choices over and over again, and gradually sank to
the bottom.

@DogMan brainless liberals castigate veterans because they "hate guns", but beg the veteran to defend them.

Veterans are highly productive and motivated, so it threatens ordinary civilians. If I had a choice between some degreed whiny civilian, or a hardened former military veteran, I would hire two vets before even considering a civilian.

@DogMan 2 years minimum. Even as an admin clerk or cook if they have no guts to fight. Israel has that and a stronger citizenry.

@MasterLee That would be great, although I would bet that at least 50% of them would break, and probably suffer
PTSD due to basic training.
