Who are the Oligarchs?

Democrats are on a tear throwing out accusations of a Republican Oligarchy.

Do they not realize that of the top 10 billionaires in the U.S. only Musk is no
longer a Democrat? So are the other 9 the Oligarchs? They have had much
more power than Musk.

Do you know that over his career George Soros has donated 22 billion to the left?
He by far tops the list of all time donors, and Biden honored him for it, by giving him
the Presidential Medal of Freedom.

This sounds more like an Oligarchy to me.

Oligarchy - a form of government in which power rests with a small number of people.

George Soros has never formed part of a government.

By "the left" I assume you mean any cause you disagree with? For example, the Central European University that he set up in Budapest.

@BrandNewMan If that was ever his intention, he has not been very successful. His pro-democracy initiatives have been banned in Turkmenistan and Kazakhstan. He had to withdraw from Belarus after being fined by the government. His Central European University had to relocate from Budapest to Vienna after it was repeatedly attacked by the Hungarian government. $23.5m of money that he openly donated to progressive groups in 2003-4 failed to dislodge George W Bush.

Compare with Elon Musk who donated over $250m to Trump's successful election campaign and now wields direct influence over federal spending. The textbook definition of an oligarch.

@SunshineGirl No , they don’t control Trump. They control the Democrats. Bernie talks about some imaginary billionaires supposedly controlling the Republicans, but the reality is that the billionaires pull the strings on the democrats.

@SunshineGirl Oh? Just under half of the government are democrats. The Democrats were in control of the government for 12 of the last 16 years. Prior to January 2025, the president was a democrat. We have a two-party system and democrats are one of those parties.
