That must be a treasured picture, and your grandfather sure was a handsome young man. It's great that you have memories of him, even though they were brief.
My dad was a sailor in the US Navy, also, and he joined a few years after his own father died, when he was 15.
Strong image. He looks determined, wanting to give something towards. You know what his determination met, well at least, in how it brought it upon your family and all you value.
@thewindupbirdchronicles I found it, has nothing to do with African American, of course, but I sometimes think imprints of time matter, I can't judge him, and there is nothing to judge from photograph, may I share?
@HannibalAteMeOut Yes. He passed away when I was five but I was his first grandchild and I remember him reading me stories. He had a deep, booming voice. 😊
