That must be a treasured picture, and your grandfather sure was a handsome young man. It's great that you have memories of him, even though they were brief.
My dad was a sailor in the US Navy, also, and he joined a few years after his own father died, when he was 15.

@SW-User I found it, has nothing to do with African American, of course, but I sometimes think imprints of time matter, I can't judge him, and there is nothing to judge from photograph, may I share?
@HannibalAteMeOut Yes. He passed away when I was five but I was his first grandchild and I remember him reading me stories. He had a deep, booming voice. 😊
