Not directly with Iran as the flash point, but we are at an elevated risk of China trying to annex Taiwan by force. And that could cause WW3, potentially.

@BlueVeins China annexing China? That will cause WWIII?

Who would wage nuclear war against China over Taiwan?
BlueVeins · 26-30
@sree251 the US would probably wage war to defend Taiwan. Whether nukes would be used is anyone's guess.

@BlueVeins Come on, no one is going to start WW3 with China over a China colony. US economy would collapse and Americans wouldn't be able to buy things.

@emiliya Taiwan is not China's colony. It is an independent country in all but name, and it is a proud democracy. Letting big countries gobble up little countries willy-nilly is a massive threat to world peace.

No, it's not. Taiwan is a province of China. It was colonized by the Japanese in 1895 when China lost the war with Japan. After WW2 when the Japanese was defeated by the Allies of which China was a member, Taiwan was surrendered to China.

@sree251 Taiwan has its own military and does not allow the Chinese military to operate on is soil. Taiwan's government acts independently of the Chinese government. Taiwan has de facto embassies in other countries and vice versa. Taiwan is not a part of China, it's a country unto itself.

You can thank Nancy Pelosi for that. US politicians are always interfering in affairs of other countries instead of minding the business of Americans in their own constituencies. Lyndsey Graham is another busybody more concerned about Israel than South Carolina that he represents.

If you see a child complaining about its father or mother, would you give the child a gun to shoot its parents?
US is providing arms to Taiwan and trying to set up military base in Taipei.

Hong Kong and Macau act independently of the Chinese government also. Taiwan is not recognize as a country by the world community including the US.

@sree251 88% of Taiwanese people want Taiwan to remain de facto independent. US military & politicians are in Taiwan because Taiwan wants us there.

Hong Kong and Macau act independently of the Chinese government also. Taiwan is not recognize as a country by the world community including the US.

That ain't true, Hong Kong & Macau have more autonomy than the rest of China, but Chinese law still applies to these regions. Thus, they are not independent.
