He didn't address it because it is a stupid notion.

If Russia breaks ceasefire you can go back to your plan of slugging it out, it makes no difference to your situation to at least try, but there's also the possibility that Russia honors it which would be favorable. Zelensky though is delusional, he wants a full sweep, anyone in his position would but it's not realistic. Like Trump told him, he has no cards to win. The most he can hope for is to walk away from the table alive and he only has that option because of outsiders. Ukraine must compromise to survive, sometimes the lizard that sheds its tail gets away and lives out the rest of its life. Now's that moment.

Honestly I just kind of feel like if Russia wanted peace, they wouldn't have done what they did. I've never heard of Putin being diplomatic, he even said in an interview once that he just wanted land because something something glory days of Soviet something. I can find the article but I mean, this is just about territory, Putin has even said as much. So asking for peace isn't really an option as if they wanted peace they wouldn't have done it.

@SatanBurger There are new variables for them to grapple with since the start of the war. Whether they are powerful enough for changing the course is up for debate but their presence is undeniable

@SatanBurger If you cherry pick specific dates, the land the Ukraine is on was once Russian. But by that logic, Italy has the right to invade much of Europe, the middle east, and the coasts of north Africa.

By that logic, I believe Poland can also make claims too.

@ViciDraco You're right, I'm on Ukraine's side on this one. But Russia doesn't see it that way, I'm not gonna blame all of Russia because Putin has a habit of fixing elections but he really is a big baby that says "no mine!" He never got passed the age of 4 apparently.

@SatanBurger there are reasons beyond "no, mine" but they tend to born of paranoia and fear rather than rational decision making. Between demographic collapse and Russian borders being geographically disadvantaged from a defensive view, if everything went belly up and Europe devolved into total war then Russia would be screwed. Taking parts of Ukraine and Poland would shore up those defensive weaknesses and since there are plenty of ethnic Russians in Ukraine, that also helps their population count.

But what was the likelihood of a war starting in Europe before Russia went and started one? It was possible, but not very plausible.

@ViciDraco Thanks for clearing that up.
