Will russia nuke Ukraine ?

Ukraine has launch ATACMS and Storm Shadow into russia's territory
CountScrofula · 41-45, M
Probably not but I'm not making any predictions about geopolitics. Everything is in a blender.
SinlessOnslaught · 26-30, M
@CountScrofula What is ACATMS and Storm Shadow?
CountScrofula · 41-45, M
@SinlessOnslaught Escalation and Russia is bearing its teeth in response but the reason I go "probably not" is I don't think its in Russia's best interests to nuke anyone, for a ton of reasons.
SinlessOnslaught · 26-30, M
@CountScrofula I hope not. People who die on impact are the lucky ones.
No. They are winning through conventional means.

But it likely will result in retaliation but through other means. There are alot of US bases in range of Russian weapons and alot of groups and nations unfriendly to the US that Russia has good relations to.

And what I mean by retaliation by other means.

It would suck for the USN if the Houthis who already almost hit a US carrier suddenly found themselves in possession of hypersonic missiles and S-400 or S-500s.

Or Iran with top of the line Russian air defense and EW tech along with targeting data.

Or brand new Russian fighters in Venezuela.

Or say losing yet more US bases in various African nations.

Or Hezbollah getting some serious new toys.

Large weapons and tech transfers to the DPRK.

Russia has plenty of options for making American imperial overreach much more uncomfortable.
@soar2newhighs Lets deal with the real world. Not bad Red Dawn knock off scripts.
@PicturesOfABetterTomorrow So you tell us how this will ultimately play out…I can my wait.
You know the game plan, right?
Perhaps you out too much faith in the leaders of the world.
@soar2newhighs It is very simple. When you are already winning a war, you don't to random and totally pointless things to piss off other countries for no reason.
SumKindaMunster · 51-55, M
Likely not, but I don't appreciate that this administration has decided to take the risk.
Vin53 · M
@SumKindaMunster Please...Russia has responded with nuke threats literally hundreds of times. Its not remotely an option and Russia knows damn well what would happen if they used any kind of nukes.
News reports: US citizens warned to shelter in Place in kiev.
IMO the danger now is IF Putin does not respond and do so dramatically, any threats he made regarding these missiles being used against him, will show him as weak to the world and to those in his country who support him.
This whole missile thing is a gamble by both sides. And when you gamble you either win or lose.
@soar2newhighs You either live or you die.
ronisme1 · 61-69, M
No because they dont want to be nuked themselves
Probably not because that would be the end of Russia. They could always retaliate in other ways but then the US could retaliate harder so we'll have to see what happens.
No chance, not on any large scale. Even Russia's tactical nuclear weapons have a shorter range, requiring launch sites which would be reachable by the missiles that Ukraine now has permission to deploy into Russia.
GermanAf · 26-30, M
At every previous "escalation" Putin threatened with nukes.

I don't think it's gonna happen but who knows, the 20's are crazy. Full on nuclear war would be something new at least.
Probably. War was always normal and disarmament was never likely- Americans don't leave socialism alive.
Vin53 · M
No, it would trigger a tinderbox in Europe and would rapidly spin waaaaaay out of control.
ChipmunkErnie · 70-79, M
I doubt Putin is that crazy -- it would bring a swift response from NATO, I'd think.

Threatening is one thing, acting on it is another.
In a word: no.
Yes.

I've suddenly realized I don't know what that means. Every time I hear "nuke", I think strategic nuclear weapons, like ICBMs. I'm utterly dismissive of Putin doing something like that any time soon, but I now realize that maybe we're talking about tactical nuclear weapons. In some way, those are a little scarier because a) you don't need to be kim-jong-un-level crazy to do something like that and b) it's never been done before. The unknown can be so much scarier than the known.
Vin53 · M
@ImperialAerosolKidFromEP That would lead to the US asking France to 'loan' tactical nukes to Ukraine and then we're off to the races!
@Vin53 if only we could savegame and then watch that play out

@doong refer to first comment..

Let’s hope not

@TheOneyouwerewarnedabout I am pessimistic on this.

According to this: [media=https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jHJTaNKLENw]

“Trump said if the Russians don’t play nice, we may have to arm Ukraine like it’s never been armed before.”
@doong its all a show..

american politicians are calling for bidens impeachment now.. time and public opinion is on his side..

@candycane They are also operated by US "contractors" which makes a strong case that even the fig leaf of this proxy war doesn't really hold up.
