So after watching a video or two I’ve decided

WAR IS BAD! ☹️
Reason10 · 61-69, M
Nobody thinks otherwise.
Whether you know this or not, the biggest DOVES on the earth, the most ANTI-WAR types are combat veterans of all ranks. War is the LAST thing they would ever want to see people engage in.

Ever notice that Republicans presidents usually are the ones who end wars?

Nixon ended the Vietnam War.

Reagan WON the Cold War (and succeeded in getting rid of the Berlin Wall.)

Trump brought PEACE to the Middle East. He ended ISIS, (which was fomenting war and terrorism in the region.)

On the other hand, WAR has accomplished a couple of things:

1. Thanks to the Revolutionary War, you are able to live in the greatest constitutional republic on the face of the earth.

2. Thanks to the bloody CIVIL WAR, blacks are no longer bought and sold like farm animals.

3. Thanks to World War II, all of Europe is safe from Nazi rule and the Japanese no longer attack American targets in the Pacific.

We live in a dangerous world. There will ALWAYS be war, whether you like it or not. And in the United States, your FREEDOM and safety will depend on those who wear the uniform and go into battle on your behalf. They are going into harm's way for you. And war is the LAST place they would want to be.

Reserve your judgment until you meet the kids of today.
Bring back mandatory conscription!

@Richard65 It was an analogy for how the catharsis can be all-consuming.

@SnailTeeth maybe, but it's also an ironic metaphor. Hartman should have seen how Pyle was wholly unfit to become a soldier, but he was utterly determined to make him into a killer. He finally succeeded in his single-minded task, by creating a killer out of Pyle. Unfortunately, Hartman himself was Pyle's first kill.

@Richard65 Jesus was a carpenter who lived by the board and died by the board.

Exactly the analogy though... One must die within, before others die without.
