The Plop of a Frog
All is for naught
Or is it not so
You may be the judge
The chieftain paused
To take a long walk
Prior to the battle
That lay before him
Beside a serene pond
In a lush green wood
Birdsong chorused softly
Wonder filled him, his mind
And his form relaxed noticeably
Why are we doing this
A loud frog plop interrupted
His troubled thoughts
We need no more glory
We need no more territory
We have women and children
Plenty and yet must we take
More and plunder and murder
He regarded this loud frog
Who continued to plop
Most effortlessly
Even merrily, joyfully
Dragonflies flitted
A shiny green-headed
Mallard laughed at frog
And a black cluster
Of round rapid tadpoles
Danced in rhythm
To the plop tune
The chieftain all mighty
Recognized the music
The beauty and felt happy
Soon another frog joined
And then another and more
The chieftain smiled
A knowing smile
With one last glance
At the glistening spotted frog
He spun swiftly
Returned to his army
Issued the order
To inform his opponent
That the next battle
Was to be no more
Urged him to return home
And they would meet
On the day of the next
New moon to discuss
A peace treaty for the future
For you may see
A simple gesture
Like the plop of a frog
Can cause such fine change
And peace can result
From simple thought
And some redirection.
Or is it not so
