The American tanks 'won't be going for many years' as they require the Ukrainians to be trained.
But Germany required the commitment for them to budge.
But I understand their reluctance to get involved in any way in a war.
They have spent years trying to put the spectre of the Nazis behind them.

@TheSirfurryanimalWales I rather imagine the US tanks are either already in Europe or being covered in bubble-wrap even as we speak.
I further imagine the Ukrainians have already been training for some time.

@newjaninev2 Apparently best case scenario is April and then training.

@KiwiBird What I quoted came from the New York Times.
These American tanks need extensive training for anyone to operate them and it has been suggested they are not actually suitable for Ukrainian terrain.
But Germany insisted they committed to supplying them for them to budge. So it may only be a symbolic move.
There are only so many stored weapons available.
Countries still need to keep themselves defendable.

@TheSirfurryanimalWales But those German tanks look (as they would say) SuperSexyCool!! 😂
In fact, I have a couple of them parked out in my garage (well, not Leopards, exactly... but lovely nevertheless) 😀
i simply cannot resist German engineering

@newjaninev2 They look pretty bad-ass. I just was watching the news and the showed the tanks Ukraine currently have and the gun on them looks pencil thin compared to the gauge of the leopards.
