I Hate War

I served. It was near the end of the second world war, and I was required to - and I also felt it was my duty. And I think I did it well.

And I suppose I think that in those circumstances, it was necessary. But it was still horrible, it was still awful.

It's impractical I know, but I've often felt that any politician who is in a position to make a decision to go to war should have had to experience it. Only then can somebody decide it the price is worth it.

And even if it is. It's a hideous price. It can only be justified by the genuine risk of something worse.

I have got a bit of an interest in both world wars, like what led up to them and the politics behind them. I don't think there are many good reasons for ever going to war, although WW2 was fully justified.

My great uncle was part of the D Day landings, and I am in total admiration for anyone who fought back then. I don't know, but I'm guessing you'll have seen some hideous stuff, that I'll probably never see - and you all did that, and many died, so we could have the life and freedom that we have today. And for that, I for one, am very grateful. Thank you x
