If you apply for a permit to gather and march, it’s not a protest.
HannibalAteMeOut · 22-25, F
I said that recently on a post hahah, like what's the point if the government approves of your protest but does nothing about the issue

holy shit there is nothing worse than a protest within designated boundaries what the hell are you trying to accomplish
SW-User
@BritishFailedAesthetic indeed, you are paying attention.
@SW-User I don't agree with what it did, but I'm not a self-flagilator who beats myself up for historical actions I didn't do.
SW-User
@BritishFailedAesthetic as long as you understand that rights are taken not given.
I disagree. you're getting an opportunity to speak your piece and show how large your numbers are. You're just doing it in a manner that doesn't cause too much inconvenience to others and doesn't endanger anyone.
@Gloomy
Climate change protests grow increasingly radical
Good example. Do you know of a single mind that has been changed in favor reducing CO2 due to defacing of classic art? I'm a total supporter of halting AGW, and those "art attack" protests are the worst possible way to get the message across.
Gloomy · F
@ElwoodBlues Defacing art is bad but blocking roads or preventing deforestation by camping at the site are great things.
Individuals reducing their Co2 production is noble but will never work out if people don't force themselves to do so by structural change.
@Gloomy Currently the biggest issue has little to do with changing minds and almost everything to do with transmission line infrastructure and the permitting process.
[big]Wind and solar power generators wait in yearslong lines to put clean electricity on the grid, then face huge interconnection fees they can’t afford[/big]

Waiting in line
The entire electric grid in the U.S. has installed capacity of 1,250 gigawatts. There are currently 2,020 gigawatts of capacity in the interconnection queue lines around the country, according to a report published Thursday by the Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory. That includes 1,350 gigawatts of power capacity, mostly clean, looking to be constructed and connected to the grid. The rest, 670 gigawatts, is for storage.

Berkeley Lab pulls interconnection queue data from all of the regional planning territories in the United States and from between 35 and 40 utilities that are not covered by areas with regional planning authorities. The data covers between 85% and 90% of the electricity load in the United States, Joseph Rand, an energy policy researcher and the lead author of the study, told CNBC.
Government approved "protest"
Why isn’t it ?
SW-User
@bijouxbroussard operating outside side of the framework of what is allowed isn’t always an option.

Perhaps?
@SW-User True, but that doesn’t mean one can’t apply for a permit to gather and march for a demonstration, does it ? One less hassle in exercising one’s civil rights. That doesn’t make it not a protest.
SW-User
@bijouxbroussard I do appreciate that point.
