That's true. However the president has the sole authority to order a nuclear strike without the approval of congress, military advisers or anyone else.

It would be best if he drowns in the catsup before he starts talking in his sleep. We can always hope.

@ArishMell I was in San Clemente when I was 19 in 1980 and camping on the cliffs at a State Park campsite and would walk the beach in front of Nixon's house and some guy told me a tale about buttons under his desk in his office there, but they probably were not much more than security but how would this guy I met know anything unless he knew someone who was in there ...so there is little veracity...and I did see a seal on the beach who was wearing a collar, like he belonged to somebody

@atlantic59 The one who talked about the buttons likely added his own imagination.

The buttons might well have existed, and as you say for functions like internal security, but they do say a little learning is a dangerous thing!
