I voted no on the poll. The reason I voted no is that I believe you keep your friends close, but your enemies closer. Many NATO countries are ones that need to be kept closer. However, we need to make sure each and every NATO country pays their fair share or we pay nothing.

@carpediem We're aligned on this.

Coalitions are the only way forward. It’s a matter of ensuring everyone pays there fair share. We let others get away on the cheap before, Trump is the only one to call them out and force them. Finally the free ride is over.

America is engaged in an Imperialist Project and needs to maintain a global presence in as many countries as possible. It currently has around 800 military bases across the world, including 13 in the UK, which are officially registered as RAF bases, but are actually US military bases. When a country joins NATO, the USA gets to place her troops and planes on foreign soil, so enlarging her reach, sharing information and so facilitating her Imperialist Project. Why do you think Putin invaded Ukraine when he thought Ukraine might join NATO? Because it meant an American military base right on his doorstep. NATO benefits the USA in a whole host of ways you don't seem to understand beyond a percentage of GDP paid in membership fees. You effectively get a shit-ton of land-based aircraft carriers and all the extras in order to maintain your global military dominance.
@Richard65 its no different when to when Khrushchev wanted to put nukes 5 mins from washington in Cuba..

but the media will never share that point of view...

In a heartbeat..

Anyone seen any soviets around lately?

Besides the left of politics.

NATO was only to stop Soviet expansion..
NATO was the ones who expanded..

Trump in his first term demanded NATO countries pay their share that is explicitly stated as a % of the GDP, the media and Democrats threw a fit.
Stay in NATO. Be the one who Carries a big stick but remains pretty quiet, quite calm and collected at the U.N. Get out of WHO ( they tried to push their pandemic preparedness plan on the U.S. basically stealing our sovereignty) . The WEF, no we need to disregard that set up.
@soar2newhighs It's time we stepped away from the plate, let them all duke it out with each other.
@NativePortlander1970 I think NATO commanders in Europe will not want another round of Trump laying out their shortcomings; and hopefully he can help broker a peace between Russia and Ukraine.That would very likely take a good dealOf pressure off of NATO European nations.

@Ontheroad Nato wants a One World Government. Nato was behind the lock downs during covid. They have become evil and corrupt. Nato would collapse with out the US to fund it. I say we leave immediately. Use the money to pay off the national dept.
Ontheroad · M
@Confined and leave ourselves in a huge tactical disadvantage. Nope, NATO, regardless of the infighting, is was keeps Russia and to a lesser degree, but just as importantly, keeps China in check.

It's worth every dollar spent, but we do need to push other countries to pay their share.

Yes we should the nato members don’t pay what they should for membership…
4meAndyou · F
That might actually be a good idea. At least as regards WEF and WHO. The UN is filled with enemies...so that might be another good thing to drop.
@4meAndyou I would definitely like to see the US withdraw from the UN, WHO & WEF.

NATO is a different animal. Its charter was to keep Russia in check as a threat to western Europe. We tend to forget that Russia was an ally in WWII, that the cold war is over, and that the USSR no longer exists. Maybe it's time to look to repair relations with Russia. There was a time when discussions of including Russia in NATO occurred...of course, that defeats the purpose of NATO. 🤷‍♂

What is the NATO funding agreement?
Quimliqer · 70-79, M
@BizSuitStacy No one pays NATO! The agreement is when signing up to be a NATO country is 2% of the countries GDP will be spent on the countries defence.
Unfortunately in the past many countries, as you have noted, do not spend the required amount and when an invasion happens they depend on the US to come to their aid. This is what Mr Trump is against, having to be the playground monitor.
@Quimliqer here's the current allocation by country

@BizSuitStacy Also home to the EU, who forces member countries to obey to their non elected council.

NATO lost its relevance when the USSR ceased to exist.
SandWitch · 26-30, F
You are advocating that the USA return to being an isolationist Nation. That is precisely why the USA was 2 years late entering WWII, because the USA was an isolationist Nation at the time and never gave a dam about any Nation but itself until German subs suddenly started showing up in New York Harbor and sunk over 680 US merchant ships heading for the UK. Only then did America suddenly realize there was a world war going on in Europe that was now on America's doorstep.
@SandWitch
So which is Sandy? Imperialism or Isolationism?

Just gonna ignore your Europeon comrades, and go with isolationist. Got it.

as every nation stops trading with the USA
🤣🤣🤣
Oh my! Every trading partner in the world is suddenly going to walk away from exporting goods to the US. Let's see what that might cost...

Here's the export revenue of the US's top 3 trading partners:
China ($570 billion)
Mexico ($500 billion, 30% of their GDP)
Canada ($460 billion, 20% of their GDP).

You think they'll give that up on principle, simply because the US is giving the middle finger to the globalists? China could absorb the hit, but why would they? Mexico and Canada, on the other hand, can't afford it.

the USA is wholly dependent on other nations for America's day to day survival.
Congratulations 🏆 The stupidest comment I've read in years. The US is a $30 trillion a year economy, with all of the natural resources and infrastructure to easily thrive on its own.

Stop the silly talk.

If the UN headquarters is going to be on US land move it to Barrow, Alaska.
@eli1601 good place for it
TexChik · F
Only give NATO a second chance to toe the line. The UN needs to be invited to leave.
