How to start a fake news item.

Record a puff of smoke rising from your chimney. Re-record it in reverse with worried dialogue over top. Claim it was a huge explosion over Billings Montana. Possibly a Chinese spy balloon shot down. Mention Pentagon denial to give it an air of cover up conspiracy.

Or you could just get ai to generate something and then tell people it's real ...

Turns out, the entire Russia Gate, Mueller report story was based on a single liar website, Hamilton 69, that was accusing normal people of being Russian bots.
Two years, it was the top story on the US media for two years. Only five people and myself care about the retraction.

I like the way you think 😄
I think the balloon was real. I think DOD was already familiar with them.
Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Ga.) falsely claimed that Trump would never have allowed a China spy balloon from reaching the U.S.
“Would Trump have let China fly a spy balloon over our country?” Rep. Jim Jordan asked on Twitter.
Craig Singleton, a senior fellow at the Foundation for Defense of Democracies, told AP that Chinese surveillance balloons were sighted several times in the past five years. Some of them have been spotted near U.S. military bases in Hawaii, he said, though he did not specify when.
Trump himself joined the call for the Biden administration to destroy the most recent balloon in a message Friday on Truth Social, saying: “SHOOT DOWN THE BALLOON.” But he did not discuss his own administration’s experience with China spy balloons.
