Should petroleum and energy be rationed to tamp down on escalating costs/prices? Would a black market make rationing impractical?

Or we could try and reduce our reliance on fossil fuels. We pretty much have to anyway.

@PicturesOfABetterTomorrow Well, we are trying and the transition will ultimately take place as the technology catches up to individual societies that demand convenience and as little effort as possible. In the meantime though (short-term, which could extend several years, up to a decade), the will to be inconvenienced is just not there.
@MarkPaul That is bull. And it really has nothing to do with technology. And technological advances come through initiatives to solve problem. Advances don't happen by waiting for technology to fix a problem. You have that backwards.

And society is run by adults, not children. Sometimes inconvenience is necessary and people need to suck it up.

All of this is just excuses to do nothing and maintain the status quo.
MarkPaul · 26-30, M
@PicturesOfABetterTomorrow Calm your tits. In case you haven't noticed, there are lots and lots of lazy, selfish people who are not willing to make personal sacrifices for the greater good. Have you ever heard of environmental destruction and climate change? That's been caused largely by adults not willing to take personal responsibility because they don't want to be personally inconvenient.

Of course, these folks (which may very well include you) will rationalize and make excuses that exempt them from any accountability. And therein lies the problem, Sherlock.
@MarkPaul And you are making excuses for all of them.

I have heard of climate change. And your entire argument is "We can't do anything about it because lazy people exist." That is a bullshit cop out.

News flash, you are the one rationalizing and making excuses. You are the problem, Sherlock.
MarkPaul · 26-30, M
@PicturesOfABetterTomorrow I'm not making excuses for them or for me. As an active environmentalist, I am in favour of transitioning to alternate fuels. I am no friend of "King Coal." But, if you think society is simply going to stop using fossil fuels, cold-turkey style, then you must be living under rock. It is important that we are able to distinguish between what is and what we wish. Can you do that, Peter Pan? I know I can.
@MarkPaul Your words say otherwise.

And calling yourself an environmentalist while parroting excuses by the fossil fuel industry is just comical.

I am sorry but the survival of the human race is not dependent on catering to the feelings of entitled people enamored with the status quo.
MarkPaul · 26-30, M
@PicturesOfABetterTomorrow Sadly, you are just as entitled-acting as everyone else. In other words, Mother Theresa, you are as accountable as the rest of us for the state of the environment. As a near-carbon-neutral practitioner and enthusiast, I find it disconcerting when people (like you) refuse to acknowledge their own accountability for our planet's predicament. You can't hide from your guilt forever.
@MarkPaul And more endless bullshit from you.

You have never taken responsibility for anything ever and brag and make grand claims about how awesome you think you are. You are a joke.

Your words prove you are just another do nothing with more excuses.
MarkPaul · 26-30, M
@PicturesOfABetterTomorrow I'm an activist. What are you?
@MarkPaul Lol no. You are a fraud who make ridiculous claims here everyday.
MarkPaul · 26-30, M
@PicturesOfABetterTomorrow That doesn't put you a good light, Bernie Madoff.
@MarkPaul Lol. You are the fraud desperate for validation from strangers. That is all you.
MarkPaul · 26-30, M
@PicturesOfABetterTomorrow It's kind of amazing how you accept no responsibility, no accountability, and see yourself exclusively in a flattering light, Kanye.

Based on my professional experience and training that is usually a sign of someone desperately hiding from the truth about themselves.
