It’s ridiculous that some modern people think ancient people were stupid

A person from 3000 years ago could tell you what plants to eat and what not to, what cured and what would cause death. They could make a stretcher quickly or build shelter at short notice. They could navigate by the sun and stars.

Where as 21st century people cannot do anything without googling it first, and can be too self obsessed to try.

I suppose this is why I love reading history. All the big adventures were happening then. By comparison we are incredibly dull.
Wont see modern governments moving water for growth/expansion.
They just stack shit on shit now.

that’s just for starters…

@TheOneyouwerewarnedabout Looks like a Thames Water pipe.
TBF, a lot of their info was wrong. Maybe they could remember what they were taught, but there were also trying to cure disease via blood-letting and alchemy.
But that doesn't mean they were stupid, they just had much less proven information to work with.

The average person could not invent a bow and arrow if it were not available. We are pack animals and rely on the strongest, the most affectionate and the smartest. Nothing has changed.

Well nothing apart from gaining in knowledge but that has no bearing on anything. To say people with our own make up were stupid is very shallow and to understand we must put ourselves in their position with the facilities available. Anyone that thinks otherwise must have invented everything.

Ancient civilizations: built pyramids, brilliant cities, and lavish palaces fit for a king

Modern people: Aliens!

the average person today just thinks they're overly intelligent because they have the internet at their fingertips. I have no doubt that people long ago in the past were way more intelligent..
I could easily give one example but i dont need a bunch of the same old mob on here crying over it, so i will restrain myself haha
Yeah but I bet the people back then couldn’t use an IPad or figure out how to download an app

@Ghostinthemachine Ah, but do you know very many worshippers at the Shrine Of The Bitten Apple, who can navigate open sea or land without artificial aids, make hand-thrown pottery or knap flints into various cutting-tools?
@ArishMell I assume members of the MacIntosh Cult are quite adept and dexterous with their hands

@Ghostinthemachine Quite a lot of people have trouble with those things now.

Well according to Darwinian evolution we are falling up and getting better with every passing generation. Reality points exactly the opposite way. We are getting weaker and less creative as we rely on someone else to figure it out. I remember reading in a novel about someone using an atlatl and having no idea what one looked like I made one of my own. It worked very very well. A number of years later I saw a picture of one It didn't look like the one I made at all but both were the same in effect. A very fast arrow.

@hippyjoe1955 ... "less creative" - well, we can't and shouldn't generalise, but I'd add to that "with less initiative so more demanding" (of others) and "less patient" (too many relate time of interactions to the immediacy of the Internet).

Why less creative? Many reasons but I think one is that many now have no opportunity or wish to learn to do anything physically creative, so cannot put their ideas into being.

Well we have more than our fair share of politicians who are around today, which far outflank those from an earlier age.
There was a study done a while back that suggest that on average they may have been more intelligent

And all without the internet.
