The thing is you can call someone a white supremacist, and not only do they not deny it, not only do they not explain why they are, they wear it as a badge of honour. When people get to that stage, there really is no point in arguing with them. As humans, they are lost. I've had an argument with someone on SW about this, and I said outright: "you are a white supremacist" and that comment got liked by that person.
@jackieash True, but this is also directed at the non-whites who voted for him and are somehow still in denial.

On the 70th anniversary of the end of WW2 last year our museum had exhibitions celebrating the contributions of local Indian, Asian, African and Caribbean people to the allied war effort. It was excellent, informative, and something that many of us were very proud of.

I remember reading about this online.

I am flabbergasted that in the year 2026, our government is alarmed at references to segregation.

Then again, the new plaque at Harper's Ferry manages to avoid mentioning slavery.
@DrWatson Alarmed that the history might be taught about, while clearly attempting to recreate those times.

Hopefully, after Trump' Presidentship ends, and whichever party form the next US government, all his damage will be put right: the names replaced, the records brought out of hiding, his name removed from public buildings.

Has anyone has told Trump that those black American troops fighting alongside their white mess-mates in WW2 against the Nazis, were fighting to destroy a tyranny that treated coloured as well as Jewish people as untermenschen?

Does he not know that the original names of 19C forts in America were of the generals who founded them or colonists builng towns ther; not ones he picked out from much more recent officers?

Are these all his own ideas, or is he being manipulated by would-be powers behind the throne?

He is dragging his own country down in the eyes of the world - baffling and dismaying the USA's friends, pleasing her enemies - but he, his inner circle and many of his fans, seem unable to realise it. Or do, but don't care.
@ArishMell He’s capable of doing these things himself; even during his previous term he wouldn’t listen to his advisers when they tried to get him off (what was then) Twitter. But, considering his age and the rumors about mental health decline, I wouldn’t be surprised if someone weren’t egging him on. They wouldn’t have to push hard, though. Trump’s been a bigot since he was a young man.

@bijouxbroussard I have wondered if he's becoming worse, less rational; though I reserve judgement on whether by mental health problems or by political pressures.

This was unfortunately coming, when Trump renamed the military bases back to there old civil war names, despite congressional laws against it.

The names they claimed are not the people from the civil war.

° Reverting Fort Liberty back to Fort Bragg, now named for World War II soldier Pfc. Ronald L. Bragg.

° Fort Cavazos was renamed back to Fort Hood, but it was said to honor a different Col. Robert B. Hood instead of the Confederate general.

Just the obviousness of the names is racist.

We've known that about him ever since he first made it into the news decades ago. :( Part of his appeal to MAGA, I assume. :(
@ChipmunkErnie Yes, but you’d be amazed how many still argue the point.
ChipmunkErnie · 70-79, M
@bijouxbroussard Sadly, I'm not amazed -- sickened maybe, but not amazed. :(

I’m still shacking my head at Trump and his administration for claiming slavery wasn’t such a bad thing because the slaves learn t a trade. Cheers!

I am surprised they had the nerve to try and get away with this racist activity in Netherlands which has one of the most content integrated populations.
He and Kegsbreath have already removed all the official military web pages documenting the heroic actions of the Tuskegee Airmen and all the women who served valiantly in our wars and peace time…

Sadly we seem to be repeating exactly what led to the rise of fascism in the 1930s which led to these guys giving their lives.

Also noticed he shut down the Kennedy Center for renovation, so he does not have to schedule an event for Black history month.

@FreddieUK
I thought it was because no real artists are prepared to sign up to appear there while the T word is on the front of the building.

Sure, there's that, of course.
@bijouxbroussard …more troubling than interesting…
@KunsanVeteran Sarcasm.
FreddieUK · 70-79, M
Thanks for drawing attention to another vile act by a vile administration.
@FreddieUK …they just keep going from one vile act into another…each even worse than the ones before…
@FreddieUK They’re certainly not advertising these things. 🥺

Wow. That's pretty blatant, and really low, even for him.
No minimum…!@Piper …there is no minimum!

@NudasPriest I hope that entails putting some seriously new and powerful guardrails around Congress and the SCOTUS and establishes new ways to remove a POTUS and their entire administration for being incompetent, criminal, and mentally unfit.

And there has to be laws reining in these ICE type thugs as well.

It all starts by holding tRUMP, Clarence Thomas, Alito, Mike Johnson, Noem, Bovino, etc. legal accountable.

@softspokenman That's where we're headed right now. It has to be stopped, somehow, someway.
@Rutterman Unfortunately we understand what that means: "The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants." Thomas Jefferson Nov. 13, 1787
@Rutterman We absolutely NEED the granddaddy of all Blue Waves in the midterms.
