The Indians weren't invited to the first Thanksgiving feast. The Wampanoag tribe had previously entered a strategic alliance with the Pilgrims where they would aid each other against other Indian tribes. They knew that the English had guns, so they sent one of their English-speaking members to cozy up to them and build some trust.
The Pilgrims had a brutal first year in the New World, losing half of their people from famine and disease. So when their first harvest was a success, they were so ecstatic that they started firing their guns off into the air.
The Wampanoag heard all the gunshots and thought they were being attacked, so they sent 90 of their men over. Once they figured out what was happening, they went out and killed 5 deer to bring some venison to the feast

@TinyViolins Another fun fact is that after the feast, they had a difficult winter, because they ate a little too much of the food they had harvested.
