@Northwest it lead to changes in weather forecasting. Its considered of of the deadliest storms if memory serves me correct somewhere close to 12,000 peple died.

@Northwest till 1900 the local weather people had to get permission from the chief in Washington before making forecasts

@SJones48 @AngelUnforgiven This was the largest number of deaths for a weather disaster in the US, whether you go with low estimate or higher estimate.

The forecast was there, but it seems as if Galveston building a surge wall for future protection started the era of true prepardness.

@AngelUnforgiven When the system moved north,it caused deaths and destruction even around the maritime provinces of eastern Canada.
