ancient battles didn't involve as much strategy & tactics as historians would have everyone believe; marching up in flanks meeting face to face was more about numbers than anything...
many also have this false notion that battle is all close quarters combat with warriors duking it out 1 vs 1 like a video game. In reality, especially today; 80% of casualties are inflicted by indirect fire (artillery, mortars, etc.). Back then, a good longbowman was worth a dozen swordsmen.

@wildbill83 thet also didnt have heavy machinery to haul around. They would set up camps then just pack up when they nees to move. Hard to attack a camp when its never in the same spot twice
