Why through history have Jews faced hatred?

I learned an important fact ...there really aren't many of us around even though it may seem different
starmitzy · 51-55, F
@Chernobylplaygrounds in terms of global population it would only be small percentage of people
Harmonium1923 · 51-55, M
@starmitzy @Chernobylplaygrounds In round numbers, about 16 million Jews, with 40% or more in Israel, and another 30-35% in the US. Compared to over 2 billion Christians and another 2 billion Muslims (those numbers may actually be low).

I think it’s because throughout history we make a point of celebrating our differences. Religious beliefs (that difference goes back to pre-Christian times, since the Greeks and Romans didn’t like us either). But also living in separate communities within other societies. Speaking separate languages. Not eating certain foods. Dressing differently. Observing different holidays. Prioritizing books and learning over other activities. Etc.
People are jealous of their business savvy. Seems like someone told me they were Gods chosen people. That can rub some the wrong way. LOL
starmitzy · 51-55, F
@SheCallsMeCrushDaddy yeah I think jealousy has a lot to do with it!!
basilfawlty89 · 31-35, M
Initially religious intolerance and later due to ultranationalism and "scientific" racism.

Jewish people aren't the only ones to experience this. Armenians and Assyrians have faced the same. So do the Yezidi.
@basilfawlty89 And blacks, etc…
basilfawlty89 · 31-35, M
@bijouxbroussard very much so. In fact, if we're going to be honest, while it's really hard to measure human misery on a scale, the slave trade, colonialism, genocide, imperialism and Apartheid means Africans have probably suffered the most. At least based on race. Native Americans might come close.
ServantOfTheGoddess · 61-69, M
I think very simply because we are a minority. Most societies have treated minorities badly. They are like the weird kid who gets bullied.
Queendragonfly · 31-35, F
@ServantOfTheGoddess Same way as the "Samer" in North Scandinavia are hated and discriminated. They're minority too.
ServantOfTheGoddess · 61-69, M
@Queendragonfly Yes, like that.
DeWayfarer · 61-69, M
Better to ask why the insistence of a certain piece of land.

What entitles anyone to anything? Go back in history even if it's the Bible. Why did the Israelites fight against the Canaanites at Jericho?

Even that war Israel hadn't formed.

The hatred goes back over 3,000 years. Before any country even existed.
starmitzy · 51-55, F
@DeWayfarer yes well I am going back that far
DeWayfarer · 61-69, M
@starmitzy archeologist are digging up the Jericho site at this moment. Those were Canaanites.
deadgerbil · 22-25, M
Lots of ignorance and bigotry
starmitzy · 51-55, F
@deadgerbil seems to be what this world spins on
Sojournersoul · 100+, M
Gods chosen people. 🤷
Ontheroad · M
For me it's rather simple... they are different and a small minority. We, humans are a sorry lot when it comes to anything or anyone different than us, and the more power "us" has, the more that fear turns to hate.
JSul3 · 70-79
Christians, more specifically, evangelical Christians, act like they care about the Jews....but they really don't. You see, the Jews don't accept Jesus as their saviour, and that doesn't sit well. They actually are rooting for Armageddon, and can't wait for it!
Many of them see Trump as a modern day King Cyrus. They root for Putin as well. Their love of the Russian Orthodox Church runs deep with them as well.
JSul3 · 70-79
@starmitzy If we removed religion from the world, it would be a better place
starmitzy · 51-55, F
@JSul3 100% agreed, time to switch on the ole grey matter
JSul3 · 70-79
@starmitzy As John Lennon wrote: "Imagine no religion.....you say I'm a dreamer, but I'm not the only one. We hope some day you will join us, and the world will live as one."
MasterLee · 56-60, M
Some people want what they have and are willing to kill for it while using women and children as himan shields. The nazi behaviors are disgusting.
cerealguy · 26-30, M
They're people. Black people also faced hatred. So have whites. Name a group; they get hated
Zeusdelight · 61-69, M
Their continued plea of being victims, as in your question, even though they have influenced the UN and other organisations to support their victimisation of the Palestinians.
starmitzy · 51-55, F
@Zeusdelight I'm talking thousands of years of victimisation
Zeusdelight · 61-69, M
@starmitzy Noone will have an accurate answer for 1000's of years.
I have often wondered this.
starmitzy · 51-55, F
@MsSwan there are some fabulous docos on youtube
Bumbles · 51-55, M
Because Barbarians and Gentiles suck?

The Jews are Joseph, the other nations are his brothers, and God's favor is the 'dreamcoat'. Jealousy, and the perception of arrogance.
Renaci · 36-40
In the biblical old testament they were at war with almost everyone. Including their own people at times. Going so far as to genocide whole tribes.
After a while the nation becomes more at peace. Especially under the Roman empire. But there was still the drive from a Zionist ethnostate even then.
Then by the time Jesus comes around and is executed the followers of Jesus blame them for literally killing their god. Except him not staying dead was kind of the whole point.
But then the church came to power and was the only part of the Roman empire to remain in power and they ruled for a thousand years. For the next fifteen hundred years or so the christian community literally demonized the Jews going so far as to say they engaged in pedophilia, ate babies and sacrificed them to Satan. All because they didn't believe Jesus was the son of God and were blamed for his death. We call that time the dark ages for a very good reason.
This cumulates in the rise of Hitler who was going to create the "final solution". As he said his movement was a Christian movement. The entire culture of Europe had been fed two millennia of dehumanizing propaganda so the rise of a mad man was almost inevitable.
You can't keep demonizing people that long without serious repercussions.
Now a days we have right wingers, republicans, evangelicals, Qanon conspiracy theorists that spread the same devil worshiping, baby eating lies that the church started.
The current situation has also given power to neo-nazis and other antisemites to sow chaos and confusion by saying being against the Israeli government is antisemitic. And the simple minded fall for it because they can't distinguish between a government and a people. So they hijack the entire conversation so sow discord.

So it is a literal 10,000+ year old clusterfuck of hate and genocide that will never end. Which is why I find it incredulous that people still pick sides in a war that is literally older than the written word. Thinking that side XY will win against side YX this time. The literal only time the middle east has been at peace was before humans left Africa. So it's not nation or culture Z that is the problem. It that humans are the problem.
