You guys, I just thought of something.

Okay, so obviously, there's no proof, just my gut feeling from watching the news, but what about this? Politicians in Washington are intentionally stirring the pot, making ridiculous claims about the election being stolen, and defending obvious criminal acts by the former president, in order to divide us as a country. And worse, they are trying to stir up the most gullible among the right wingers into an insurrection attempt, maybe even open rebellion. All so that they can crack down and declare martial law when it happens.
I think its more a case of a new breed of politician, schooled by watching Trump, who realize they can tap into his base and gain instant support just by giving them the "im one of you" routine.
They don't care about the country, the truth, their morals.
They just want to play a major role in The Big Show. They know Trump is either going to prison or just plain won't be around much longer (he looks like a heart attack waiting to happen). And they're vying to claim his throne.

@robingoodfellow I think you must be right.
You can probably overestimate the number of folks hoping for martial law, as opposed to just wanting to benefit from the threat of it politically or economically.

Remember how many Republicans panicked after 1/6 when Trump even toyed with a Putsch and condemned violence?

I'd like to think that, as opposed to their latter defense of the sightseeing and peaceful demonstration, was a sign that they actually had some sense of loyalty to the nation, its citizens and institutions, despite later political calculations and demonstration that the Trump mob could still be turned on them.

@MistyCee

I'm sorry, but who had loyalty to their nation?

Seriously?!!!
You're just figuring that out now?!!!

Welcome to the jungle my friend.

Your theory has no holes.

Or they could just be just as incompetent as every other government.

@Morvoren Yeah, could be.
Elections aren't politics. Murka no issues. Murka reject issues. Dividing good from evil makes Murka sad.
