Critique My Friends Theory (New Babylon)

My best friend has theorized that the USA is what the Bible refers to as "New Babylon" and that the Book of Revelation will come to pass once the USA falls to darkness (the UN, or foreign powers). He claims as the beacon of light in an otherwise dreary world, the fall of the US as a world power will signal Jesus second coming. Discuss.

People have been saying this forever about whatever country they're in. Like they said that shit when women started wearing pants regularly instead of dresses.

There's no Biblical doom here, just an economic system eating itself alive.
Revelation chapter 13, speaks of religious persecution and intolerance will be everywhere because Babylon (the coalition of religious leaders) will be determined to appease God at any cost.

Babylon in Revelation chapter 19, symbolizes the wickedness of the world, and will be destroyed at the Second Coming of Jesus Christ. If we follow God's command to come out of Babylon, we will not partake of the sins of the world, nor be overtaken in the plagues that will destroy it.

The covenant (New World Order) is yet to be signed; therefore, the Tribulation period has not started. The Tribulation will begin when the Antichrist signs a seven-year covenant with Israel. He will not fully honor that covenant but will break it in the middle of the 7 years, according to Daniel’s Vision – (see Dan 9:27). As soon as that New World Order is signed, according to scripture, that will usher in the tribulation period.
I believe he's not far off but new Babylon isn't just the US. Still trying to discern this but globalisation definitely fits the description of new Babylon.

It's a case of discerning what we are shown but we cannot know it all and will not know God's timings. Therefore anyone claiming to know is a false prophet and only leads people astray.

I'm also unsure if the rapture occurs prior to the 7 plagues and fall of new Babylon or sometime during or after. While the events are clear the sequence hasn't been shown to me.
This is the evangelical's version of American exceptionalism. I don't buy it. There are plenty of nations out there just as well behaved as the US - it's not all that hard because we're not all that well behaved.

Honestly, instead of trying to serve "the least of these my brethren," Americans try to build a wall to keep them out.
“Then shall the righteous answer him, saying, Lord, when saw we thee an hungred, and fed thee? or thirsty, and gave thee drink?

“When saw we thee a stranger, and took thee in? or naked, and clothed thee?

“Or when saw we thee sick, or in prison, and came unto thee?”
The true answer for American policy is NEVER.

@ElwoodBlues Keep them out - or try to tell them how to live their lives!

Your friend gives the United States too much credit. They greatly underestimate the power of China and the liberal-ness of other nations that exceeds the United States 🤷🏻‍♀️
ShadowWolf · 31-35, M
@WhateverWorks Interesting perspective!
When something is a real theory, it means data can be collected and designed tests made. If tests can’t be created for any reason, then it’s speculation not theory.

Bob Marley. Babylon By Bus.
Me since 1980- I live in Babylon, and try to explain the way out to the confused captives.
dakotaviper · 56-60, M
That's not even close.
We're much closer to Sodom and Gomorrah that New Babylon.

Ignoring Revelations as shamanistic ramblings of little relevance even in their own place and time, the USA's attempt to control other countries is fading partly by her own fault, but wasn't she one of the founders of the UN you clearly do not like?
ShadowWolf · 31-35, M
@ArishMell Revelation is one of the books I think was written under "duress" since Nero was going coocoo at the time. I personally don't take everything literally from it. My friend does however. USA was one of the founders of the UN, but it's original purpose (what was posed to the people anyways), is not what it has become. Now it has become a power hungry globalization monster.
ArishMell · 70-79, M
@ShadowWolf "Coocoo" or not, Nero was one of the most repressive, wasn't he?

I don't see the UN as you do, and I don't know what you mean by "globalisation" - it is one of those words often used in many contexts with meanings as slippery as an eel - but it does not seem to have the power you fear it wants. I doubt it could gain it even if it wants it.

Oh, yes, it was certainly established with the very best intentions, but now appears rather ineffectual, if anything. Certainly not very powerful.
ShadowWolf · 31-35, M
@ArishMell Nero was one of the most repressive rulers in history period. He was so messed up he thought his own mother was against him and had her killed. His coocooness went straight to paranoia and mania.

Agree to disagree on the UN. And “the road to hell was paved with good intentions”

If his hypothesis (it’s not a theory since it can’t be tested) is based on the collection of ignorant scribbling cobbled together by a pagan Roman emperor generally known as the Bible, it’s full of shit.
ShadowWolf · 31-35, M
@redredred The Bible wasn't written by a Roman Emperor rofl. Revelation was influenced by Nero's actions however.
redredred · M
@ShadowWolf Constantine ordered the assembly of the Bible in 312 AD. Notice I said “cobbled together” not written. It was written by ignorant fools. Much like the people who preach it.
ShadowWolf · 31-35, M
@redredred Ahhhh thanks for the clarification. I didn't realize we were going that far forward in Roman History. I thought we were talking Ceasar Augustus to Nero Ceasar.

Americans really want America to be important.
JaggedLittlePill · 46-50, F
@ArishMell I think you are aware of what is meant by this. The bible is fictional anyhow. .. so, believing it describes America before it ever existed is as absurd as it seems.

No one needs to be proud of their country in order to be a decent human. Most people don't want their country to be important. They want to live freely without fear of the government. Most people aren't obsessed with "statesmanship" or their love of country.. but their love of other humans and their experiences in that.

The point is, Americans want America to be "exceptional" and "mentioned in the bible" because that lends clearance to their delusions.

I really love when men play stupid.
JaggedLittlePill · 46-50, F
@ShadowWolf Your immediate response shows the true reasoning behind your original question. You accuse me of being a self hating American...it is typical reasoning of a Libertarian.

I am not conerned with patriot status
