How do conspiracy theories get started and why do so many people believe them?

I have had long talks with my apartment manager who believes several conspiracy theories as fact. While I respect her opinions, some of her ideas border on lunacy. Is it possible that President Biden does not live in the White House? She thinks he travels from another residence for all his appearances. She showed me a picture taken in the White House of something showing 2017- for President Trump's term. Her conclusion is that Donald Trump is still President of the United States.
Conspiracy theory is truth if you just wait a few days..
it used to be months/years, but the majority is fed up ..

Alex Jones and David Ike have more cred then the lame stream media..

Let that sink in

@TheOneyouwerewarnedabout Alex Jones is a bucket of shit loser.
@ineedadrink never said he wasn’t a bucket of shit.
All I said was he’s got more cred than the lying media, who lies to your face repeatedly..
and you still believe them..

Weird

You haven’t noticed how weird the “White House” press conference settings are with BIden have you? Do you pay attention to details? He doesn’t even have a press conference in the real White House much less live there. You can check the webcams, not much going on at the WH except for constructions of a fence around the fountain and some other things. It’s not like it used to be with presidents living there.

When someone discovers an illegal activity and reports it, the guilty party claims its a conspiracy theory. Such as the over reporting of Covid deaths in the United States. Now, even blue states are starting to fess up. When it was initially reported , the left called it a conspiracy theory.

Too much Alex Jones I imagine.

God only knows where they start though. Like did someone post something and it went viral somehow?

They did not get started. The term “conspiracy theories” were invented to tuck back some truth that started to come out...

Google how the "ok" sign became a racist symbol. It never did - has always been a gag
I've been wondering about that myself. I see self-delusion all the time but I can usually understand the motivation. My best guess is about nature's abhorrence of a vacuum. If the disaffected decided that elites are lying to them, then what are they going to believe in? Because it has to be something! Thing is, if you decide you've been lied to, then whatever shot you'll be taking is in the dark. And shots in the dark aren't know for their accuracy.

Idiots love to imagine that they have priviledge to some secret knowledge and are this small minority that have it all figured out. Basically they can't deal with the fact that nobody really knows exactly what is going on. So they glom onto or invent these fantastic ideas of esoteric explenations out of comfort. It gives them feeling of being in some sort of control.
