Cleveland Pitchers Accused of RIGGING PITCHES in $450K Betting Scheme, FBI Arrest at Boston Airport
Two Major League Baseball pitchers for the Cleveland Guardians, Emmanuel Clase De La Cruz, 26, and Luis Leandro Ortiz Ribera, 25, have been indicted in federal court in Brooklyn for allegedly conspiring with offshore gamblers to rig individual pitches and exploit insider information for cash payouts, according to prosecutors and an indictment unsealed Friday in the Eastern District of New York.
The Department of Justice said FBI agents arrested Ortiz early Sunday morning at Boston Logan International Airport as he returned from the Dominican Republic. He is expected to make his initial appearance before a federal magistrate in Boston on Monday, Nov. 10 and then in the EDNY at a later date. His co-defendant, Clase, the Guardians’ All-Star closer, is still abroad and has not yet been taken into custody, authorities said.
