Is this passage from a concerned person in Chicago or possibly Portland?

"Terrible things are happening outside.
At any time of night and day, poor helpless people are being dragged out of their homes. Families are torn apart. Men, women, and children are being separated. Children come home from school and to find that their parents have disappeared."

It's quite haunting, isn't it? It seems to be an accurate account of what is happening in the Trump Police State now.

Does history repeat? Have the words of a child, written decades ago, come back to us as a warning?

The worst part about history seeming to repeat itself may be that's its no accident.

While people scream about the Nazi similarities and the "hatefulness" of pointing them out, Trump and those who pay him continue to profit.

If Trump is "Hitler," he's being awfully slow about it in this incarnation.

The original Hitler, within two months of having become chancellor, had made himself absolute dictator of Germany, able to pass laws without any input from the legislature or judiciary, and even able to violate the Weimar constitution itself.

@Thinkerbell History does not always go on the same timeline. Here we have a SCOTUS that has ruled that this President has incredibly broad immunity , a slim Congressional majority that does not hold him accountable and that refuses to seat duly elected members of the opposition party and most troubling: the use of the US military in American cities which is absolutely unprecedented in scale.

While the gassing of Jews in concentration camps did not start until 1942, 9 years after Hitler took power, the civil mistreatment of Jews, gays, gypsies took place right away and similar to the harassment that Hispanics are enduring in the US right now.

Kristallnacht did not occur until 1938. 5 years after Hitler took power.

So yeah the analogy is apt, whether or not it follows the same month by month trajectory.
@Thinkerbell No one in their right mind would compare Trump to Hitler in terms of success at running a country, or even a business.

I seriously doubt Trump has any designs on actual extermination of vermin, enemies within, or even "not so good people," but I do think that he capitalizes on both the appeal of it and the uproar over it.

Obviously, despite similarities, especially in terms of propaganda, there are plenty of differences.

For example, Hitler did restructure Germany into a war-time economy and really did acquire territory with resources Germany wanted.

Trump has toyed with territorial expansion, a la Greenland and Canada, but it's pretty obvious that this, like restructuring the world economy to somehow benefit the Country isn't something he's really seriously pursuing or even capable of.

Of course, Trump probably will far exceed Hitler in terms of personal profit, merchandising, bribes, extortion, etc.

@MistyCee Well, considering his wealth has gone down significantly ever since he started running for President, that seems unlikely .......

"No one in their right mind would compare Trump to Hitler in terms of success at running a country, or even a business."

Hitler, the failed artist, never ran any kind of business, except maybe the business of organizing a political movement.

Um... "success in running a country...? 🤔

"Of course, Trump probably will far exceed Hitler in terms of personal profit, merchandising, bribes, extortion, etc."

If he does that, then he will be no different from the rest of the crooks that comprise 99% of politicians.
@Thinkerbell Point taken with Germany losing the war, but Volkeswagen, BMW, IG Farben, etc survived and probably profited.

As for personal fortunes, when you add the Crypto stuff, Trump seems to have done exceptionally well, even without considering whatever scams he's run with foreign countries and his domestic merchandising stuff.

@DavidT8899 Are you aware of the event in Chicago, at the apartment bldg where agents were repelled in via Blackhawk helicopter in the middle of the night, and all residents had their doors broken into, and every man, woman, and child, were matched out, zip ties, and taken away?
There were black and brown folks arrested. How would you have reacted were your door smashed and agents in masks and guns matched you and your moved ones out of your apartment and taken away?

Others have simply been in the streets or in their cars and accosted by ICE agents for no other reason than the fact they are Latino/Hispanic.

I will remind you that entering the US is a civil matter and not a criminal one....a misdemeanor not a felony.

Rev. David Black, a Presbyterian minister in Chicago, was shot in the head with a pepper ball by an ICE agent while protesting outside an ICE facility in Broadview, Illinois.

If Trump was really arresting predators, drug dealers, and "the worst of the worst" nobody has an issue with that, but that's not what is happening.

"Point taken with Germany losing the war, but..."

"Aside from that. Mrs. Lincoln, how did you like the play?" 🙄

And there's hardly a member of Congress (including Bernie) who doesn't become a muti-millionaire, especially Nancy. 🙄

@Thinkerbell So what?
@Thinkerbell Sure, politicians feather their own nests, but Trump's Trump. He has to have the biggest, most garish and tacky nest, the likes of which the world has never seen, complete with gold covered feathers.

There's lots of differences between H and T, but I think one big difference is age. H took power and died relatively young, while Trump had a long and successful fraud career before taking office and doesn't seem concerned with building a 1000 year Reich or even leaving anything standing after he's finished looting.

I'll say this, though. As much as I despise the guy, I've always liked the idea of fewer bombs and guns and more economic competition.
