I’m not really certain, but we do know, in spite of the president’s attempts to foment conflict and disorder (rather than bringing people together), it wasn’t at the hands of a "leftist". Kirk was killed, ironically, by someone who loved guns as much as he did.

It was not an organized hit. It was the work of a single nutcase with low self-esteem who thought murdering someone would elevate him. Tyler jumped off the roof with his backpack. In that backpack were the disassembled parts to the rifle his grandfather had given him as a family heirloom. Left on the roof was the screwdriver he used to dismantle the rifle.
