@JSul3 yes it is, if I went to Australia, would they let me stay
JSul3 · 70-79
@ididntknow Ask Australia.
This is the USA.

I would be okay with this applying to Musk, he likely was working illegally in the US at one point, and is one of those jerks too happy to pull up the ladder behind them after they themselves were able to benefit from it:

https://www.theguardian.com/technology/2024/oct/26/elon-musk-illegal-immigration

I am not okay with it applying to Zohran Mamdani simply because MAGA doesn't like him appealing to everyday people with policies that actually benefit them ... we very much need Mamdani, AOC and the like to become the face of the Democratic party now ... it's very interesting that Mamdani won his primary in the same week that Bezos was having his tone-deaf conspicuous consumption wedding:

«Trump will stop at nothing to protect billionaires and price gouging corporations, even racist bullshit like this»
— Chris Murphy, Democratic senator for Connecticut

@JSul3 it the was Democrats that wanted Slavery to continue, the were the South, it was the Republicans, so North, that went to War over Slavery to end ... it was the North that won the Civil War

🤔 ... it's as simple and basic as that

...there MAY have been Republicans who owned Slaves who didn't want Slavery to end due to their ownership of them, nothing in history has ever been black and white, there is ALWAYS 'grey areas' - but the War was fought on the simple basic concepts of the North/Republicans wanting to end Slavery against South/Democrats wanting Slavery to continue

🤔 ... YOU were absent {physically} the full 3-4 yrs, you being absent {mentally} has been longer, 70-79 yrs in fact

@BigGuy2
"It the was Democrats that wanted Slavery to continue, the were the South, it was the Republicans, so North, that went to War over Slavery to end ... it was the North that won the Civil War."

True.
At that time the conservatives were the Democratic party. The liberals were the Republican party.

While Lincoln did sign the Emancipation Proclamation, his goal was to save the Union at all costs. Ending slavery was not his #1 objective....and he once stated that he had no issue with slavery!
Evidently he had a "come to Jesus moment" and changed his mind.

The reality is, many in the north didn't give a damn if a black man had freedom and rights. Reconstruction was a joke! They didn't enforce crap....and the results were the Jim Crow laws.

Everybody knows that....but you need to learn the difference from a 'party label'.... Democrat/Republican....and what they stand for....'conservative' and 'liberal.'

Have you ever read a history book and learned that there were liberals and conservatives and moderates in both the Democrat and the Republican parties?

Liberal thought and values freed the slaves, gave blacks and women the right to vote, the right to have credit in their names, own property....while conservative thought seeks to control and restrict freedoms for many who are not white men.

When LBJ got the Civil Rights Act and Voters Rights Act passed, he needed votes from conservative Democrats. He was successful in getting those votes in order to pass these laws, but these 'Dixiecrats' left the Democratic party and became Republicans.

LBJ said that by passing these laws that gave minorites the same rights as white men, that he would lose the South for generations....and he did.

The Southern states became solid conservative Republican.
These red states had symbols of the Confederate battle flag as part of their state flags for years.

So tell me ....if the Republicans freed the slaves, and care so much for minorities, why are they adamant about restricting their access to the ballot box? Why did they pass restrictive voting rules only hours after Justice Roberts gutted the federal protections on voting rights? If they really cared about the ancestors of the folks that you say they freed from slavery, why are they not having voter registration drives in minority neighborhoods, spouting the greatness of the Republican party platform vs doing everything they can to keep them from casting a ballot?
Many of today's conservative Republicans....aka Trump supporters....are radical groups like the Proud Boys and other neo-Nazi groups, wearing swastikas and waving Confederate battle flags, and are white supremacists?

Want some fun? Do a web search on: 'what are the most conservative nations in the world are.

Also look up the definition of 'liberal democracy.'

@JSul3 i don't need to do any of the above as you have proven my point for me

The radical right is using the playbook from the 1930s!
sunsporter1649 · 70-79, M
@samueltyler2 You meann like rooseveldt did to the passengers on the M.S. St. Louis in 1939?
JSul3 · 70-79
@sunsporter1649 FDR was wrong.
I won't excuse that.

Many US corporations were doing business with the Nazis.
Many others were not keen on entering into another foreign war so soon after WW1.
Charles Lindbergh supported isolationism and accused the Jews of drawing the US into WW2.
He received an award from the Nazis, the 'Service Cross of the German Eagle.'
Bipartisan plan. Deny and vote against change. You have no alternatives, just right and center, zero left
@samueltyler2 nothing. Americans would have a third party if they didn't insist on dying in the apocalypse. I don't want to force change on evil. Let's agree it's a self solving evil.

The bipartisan coalition in Washington is not to be trusted. But the voters? Worse. Complicit.
