Conservatives love to hate Clinton but the man did something about the debt. Bush blew it with an unnecessary war.

@Longpatrol Clinton did what the Republican controlled Congress told him to do.
@Longpatrol Bush also blew it with an unnecessary tax cut.

@HoraceGreenley
Clinton did what the Republican controlled Congress told him to do.
Bulllshit!!!

Clinton raised taxes ASAP and that tax increase drove down the deficit without wrecking the economy. Most republicans wouldn't be caught dead voting for a tax increase. Clinton exploded the republican myth that tax increases would hurt growth.

Funny thing: that alleged fiscally conservative republican congress was nowhere to be found when Bush cut taxes without cutting spending, and when Bush funded his wars with borrowed money!

@Longpatrol Bush 2's war was unnecessary except for those who profited from it. Like Dick Cheney and his buddies.

@ElwoodBlues Apparently you forgot about the Contract with Aneric reforms that occurred in the 90's.

Sorry Buckwheat...you're wrong

@tindrummer It's not my problem is you don't know what happened.
@HoraceGreenley
Its provisions represented the view of many conservative Republicans on the issues of reducing the size of government, cutting taxes, ...
Yeah, so apparently you're forgetting that Clinton raised taxes, Check out the Ominibus Budget Reconciliation Act of 1993.
The 1993 Clinton tax increase raised the top two income tax rates to 36% and 39.6%, with the top rate hitting joint returns with incomes ...
The Gingrich crowd didn't go for that tax increase, and that tax increase was crucial for Clinton's later balanced budgets. Nice try though.
HoraceGreenley · 56-60, M
@ElwoodBlues True. Congress was still controlled by Democrats at the beginning of the Clinton administration. The Republicans took control after the midterm elections.

Bubba had his head handed to him.
@HoraceGreenley
Bubba had his head handed to him.
No, you are confused, it was Monica Lewinsky who was giving Clinton head.

Yeah, Bubba resigned in disgrace in Jan 1999 when his promises and policies didn't pan out. Oh, wait, that was Newt who had his head handed to him and resigned in disgrace in Jan 1999, LOL!!!

The question here is Clinton's budget surplus. And it wouldn't have happened without Clinton's 1993 tax increase. Did you notice the name of that bill? It's the Ominibus Budget Reconciliation Act of 1993. You know the legislative implications of a "Budget Reconciliation Act" right? A Budget Reconciliation Act is the one chance per year to evade a Senate filibuster. In that case it was a threatened republican filibuster of Clinton's tax increase.

In short, Clinton balanced the budget in spite of republican attempts. And in the process he exploded the republican supply side myth that tax increases would hurt growth.
HoraceGreenley · 56-60, M
@ElwoodBlues The Domocrats lost control of Congress in Bubba's first midterm.
@HoraceGreenley You keep on trying to change the subject! Clinton raised taxes via the Ominibus Budget Reconciliation Act of 1993 and that was a crucial part of his eventual balanced budgets. No republican would be caught dead voting for a tax increase, yet the tax increase exploded the republican supply side myth.

Funny thing: those alleged fiscally conservative republican congress were enthusiastically votinv for the Bush budget taht cut taxes without cutting spending, and they let Bush funded his wars with borrowed money. If they were so interested in balanced budgets and fiscal conservatism, why did they let Bush run up record deficits of $400 billion per year??
Kypro · 51-55, M
@HoraceGreenley as did strumpet
HoraceGreenley · 56-60, M
@ElwoodBlues I'm not changing anything
Kypro · 51-55, M
@HoraceGreenley you don’t let facts get in your way I guess
