The Doomsday Clock has been set to 90 seconds to midnight

Does anyone care? Who remembered it existed? Who knew it existed?
Ducky · 31-35, F
I thought them taking it down by half a minute was ѕtupid, but by 10 seconds now? Really? The Doomsday Clock might've had some philosophical meaning to it before but it's lost all credibility now and is just another fearmongering outlet.
@Ducky Murka likes the end times game. Murka smirking nuclear.
hdiddle · 26-30, M
@Ducky And your opinion is informed on what?

Keep in mind that pulling a number out of your arse is way, way worse than the detailed analysis report that the scientists have done, so unless you have worked on something better, you're gonna have to explain why we should take your "opinion" over their research
Ducky · 31-35, F
@hdiddle Lovely attitude. We're done here.
SusanInFlorida · 31-35, F
apparently, every "setting" of this clock - to date - has been incorrect. that's probably why the media and public lost interest.

is there a doomsday clock for global warming? i recall reading predictions that the ice caps would be melted by now, and NYC 6 feet deep in water.
SusanInFlorida · 31-35, F
@hdiddle yeah - it's symbolic. but it's usually been "justthisclose" to midnight. althought it's refreshing to see some dictator's unhinged rhetoric drive this uninformed measure of potential armageddon (as opposed to the USA forging alliances like NATO, SEATO, etc) the Union of Concerned Scientists has done their best to create a panic that the headline of the day means war is upon us.

Wars result from existential crises - not bluster and rhetoric.
hdiddle · 26-30, M
@SusanInFlorida There is a war going on in Europe at the moment, sinde feb last year, and a nuclear-armed country is involved in the invasion. Not sure how much more you would need to realize we are in more danger now than last year
SusanInFlorida · 31-35, F
@hdiddle nothing in my post suggested there is no danger. you're falsely attributing opinions that were never made. thanks for your contribution.

@hdiddle I'm here

Yes, we care. My generation grew up with the atomic bomb and threats of who had enough nuclear bombs to annihilate everyone else on the planet.

There were public service TV ads about what to do if we saw the white flash or heard the "take cover" sirens. Construction details for building a bomb shelter in your back yard were available. I remember even visiting one for a public official who wanted to set the example.

We've all seen enough examples of leaked classified documents and self serving politicians and human failings to not trust claims of "fail safe". If memory serves me, I believe there were a couple of incidents of accidentally dropped atomic bombs that hadn't been activated, as well as a sunk nuclear sub with nuclear warheads. Who knows what will happen if a live nuclear bomb gets accidentally dropped, or intentionally by an over-anxious politician or crazed communist egomaniac?
FreestyleArt · 31-35, M
It won't but I wish. Gets me to Jesus faster than this pathetic life the world have to offer. Even more pathetic when Satan's son takes over this world. I rather get killed then worship this Garbage of this world no matter how safe or beautiful Illusion Satan show off. It means nothing to me. It's all illusion when it comes to wondering life without Christ.
Beautifullyderanged · 36-40, F
@FreestyleArt is this why suicide is a sin, because people would rather die then live here with Jesus? Im not religious but I thought the point of life was to try and make things better where you can and to test you before you go to the light (or fire i suppose if a person is evil).
deadgerbil · 22-25
That clock is adjusted by people who have nothing better to do with their time. Might as well just gather people around the dinner table and constantly predict when the world will end
hdiddle · 26-30, M
@deadgerbil they're a bit more rigorous than your racist uncle at the dinner table, let's just say
The world is shattering. Many things are happening especially after COVID-19. Lives have changed. It's sad but reality is that the world is becoming a hard place to survive.
zonavar68 · 51-55, M
@hdiddle really? Its grossly out of proportion to the actual risk
hdiddle · 26-30, M
@zonavar68 You can read the scientist's report and it seems perfectly in proportion.

How would you change it and where is your analysis report?
zonavar68 · 51-55, M
@hdiddle The way Covid vaxes were pushed to drive blinkered updating of experimental (and know known to be ineffective) drugs was almost criminal. The way people were forced out of employment, crippling families, small businesses, etc. was almost criminal. The way cash as a payment system was painted to be 'dirty' was almost criminal. The way accelerated wealth concentration as a result of the pandemic was facilitated was almost criminal. And now all the economies are 'rebounding' interest rates set by central banks are skyrocketing because central banks have to recover all the losses through borrowings from international banking houses and that recovery is being done by screwing the citizens to make the elite even richer and the low to middle class population majorities even less empowered. It was never about saving lives. We were never all in this together. Covid is about a global experiment in human population reduction and compliance.

This timeline has fluctuated through the years, with today being probably the closest humanity has been.

I haven't heard about the doomsday clock in a while. I think after the cold war ended, it slowly became irrelevant to many people
What was it before?
RuyLopez · 56-60, M
@Beautifullyderanged Just was thinking that the little thumbs up emoji is kind of strange to use in a discussion about the Nuclear Doomsday Clock. smh.
Beautifullyderanged · 36-40, F
@RuyLopez we know what you mean, its not like there is a large variety to choose from. Then again what would an appropriate one be lol
RuyLopez · 56-60, M
@Beautifullyderanged See.... its a vicious circle.....!
zonavar68 · 51-55, M
Who gives a fuck - except Greta the puppet of the WEF and Black Rock the 'owners' of the WEF.
calicuz · 51-55, M
Why bother worrying if there's nothing you can do about it 🤷‍♂️
PhilDeep · 51-55, M
I keep thinking of Watchmen when this is mentioned.
BeachGirl47 · 26-30, F
If its quick we wont know what happened 🫂
Doomflower · 36-40, M
We don't talk about that because it is scary.
MasterLee · 56-60, M
It has always been a joke
JustAmber · 36-40, F
Not me🖐️
@JustAmber caring gets you pretty much invisible online! Maybe in real life you're embedded in a nature hating, anti social cadre. You need to survive!
Amylynne · 26-30, F
I do. and I watch for it. it has been worse
but we do need to be mindufl
