McCarthy gets 188 votes from Republican Conference for Speaker's job

Can he pick up 30 from the Democrats, or the MAGA block that voted against him and the handful of seats still in contention? Will there be abstentions come Jan 3, lowering the majority vote required? Will the Democrats or dissatisfied Republicans submit a candidate acceptable to a broader segment of the House?

IMHO it is a situation crying out for someone besides an elected Representative to run the playground. I think Liz Cheney, suggested by someone else, is too polarizing a figure, but what about Adam Kinzinger? He is a veteran, member of significant committees including the younger generation one that Republicans desperately need, and like Cheney is leaving the House, but because he didn't want to go through the primary mudfight after being targeted by Trump for his outspoken views on the Jan 6 committee. He has repeatedly won by broad margins in both primaries and general elections in his districts. Plus he can draw on the advice of his wife who is a former aide to both Speaker Boehner and VP Pence.
@dancingtongue liz or adam... locked up republican voters for a year without trail?..

lolz. i dare them (GOP/RNC) to even try.. 🍿

@TheOneyouwerewarnedabout The GOP wouldn't do it, but what if the Democrats nominated him with their block of 210+ votes needing only 2 or 3 Republicans? Would be ironic since it is normally the Democrats who are fractured and the Republicans in lock step, but roles may be reversing. Retiring Republican Governors Charlie Baker and Larry Hogan would be other interesting possibilities.
