To all the veterans who have fought for good causes... Ernie

1200 peaceful environmental protesters determined to occupy a nuclear construction site - undeterred by the tear gas, water cannon and billy clubs that awaited them. This day it was a 'take no prisoners' confrontation because the 1414 protesters recently arrested had overwhelmed the New Hampshire justice system and there was no more room in the jails or national guard armories to hold them. Seabrook NH 1979

Nuclear power is our best choice right now These protesters should have gone and found a job instead of annoying everyone with their stupidity.
@GrinNude Im not a fan of being forced something, so yeah thats crap.

@TallMtnMedic Stored safely elsewhere is not happening. Nuclear waste is being stored onsite at US nuclear power plants. The proposed safe storage site at Yucca Mountain hasn't happened.

@GrinNude If you have a better energy solution than nuclear power please say what it is.I would love nuclear fusion reactors to be built. With investment we could be there soon.I would love to see more solar energy, wind energy, tidal energy. Not fossil fuels. The cost to our environment is just too high.
it is sad to see how ineffectual protests can be now.
thousands and thousands protest, often with NO media coverage.
and when they do show it? the slant it

the
"Battle in Seattle" were largely peaceful! media only showed black block smashers tie die spinner and turtle costumes
they DID NOT SHOW the thousands of rank and file workers, and families that were present and marching on those days

@SatyrService We live in interesting times. Lol.
Nuclear power is so much safer, cleaner and effective than every other power we use, green or otherwise. Wish they would've protested something useful.

Also, which one is the vet?

This proposed nuclear power plant was presented to the Seabrook New Hampshire town meeting on three occasions. On each occasion there were more incentives offered to the town. And on each occasion the proposal was voted down by the citizens.

Peaceful would imply they stayed outside the construction area, they weren’t peaceful.

@Quimliqer No, of course not. And if someone comes to your town meeting with incentive to bring radioactive waste to your town and your town votes it down three times at a town meeting, one of the purest forms of democracy, and it's forced upon the townspeople anyway, it's okay?
Quimliqer · 70-79, M
@GrinNude Are they dumping the nuclear waste in town, or under the regulation of the government are they having to transport it to an approved disposal site?
GrinNude · 61-69, C
This was during the Three Mile Island phase of nuclear energy. The Clamshell Alliance was advocating wind and solar in 1979.
