Awkward Moment

On Tuesday, as part of a visit to Germany, the President of the PA (Palestinian Authority), Mahmoud Abbas, was doing a press conference with the German Chancellor.

At one point, a reporter asked Abbas if he's going to apologize for the Munich Olympics Massacre, and his response include the following: "Israel committed 50 holocausts".

The press conference was but immediately short, with the German Chancellor making a hasty exit, then on Wednesday, his office expressed disgust over the casual use of the term Holocaust and 50 times, when it's a singularity. Abbas's office also issued a statement that expressed the same feeling, but without an outright apology.

Germany is preparing to commemorate the 50th Munich Olympics Massacre anniversary on Sept 5th.

Abbas is on his 18th year of a 4-year Presidential term, and the 87 year-old has not figured out yet, that he's an obstacle to peace and the well-being of his people.

He will never figure it out. Abbas is a fool who supports and facilitates the existence of groups like Hamas. As long as Palestine and its population refuse to recognize Israel's right to exist, there will never be peace.

With regard to the entire region of the Middle East, a lot of progress was made with the Abraham Accords but I would not depend on the Biden administration (or any Democrat administration) to expand and build on these Accords. They are potentially the pathway to creating a meaningful degree of peace in the Middle East and could be used for *a lot* of good IF there was the sense and willingness to do that, which the Left clearly lacks.

It's unfortunate when people who live in terrible conditions are represented by individuals like Abbas. Totally works against their progress by spewing pure ignorance and damaging their standing internationally

The misery they live in is, to a large extent, self-inflicted

To a large extent, this statement is false.

@Northwest Oh I believe that Israel would be more than happy if the Gazah people stopped fighting against them, and asked for help instead. I'm convinced Israel would help them to set up a reasonable and peaceful economy. The Gazah strip is a part of the Mediterranean coastline, they could easily milk tourists, and more than only a few could drive a Mercedes Benz. Or a Ferrari.

This utopian view does not match reality.

I will admit that i am woefully ignorant of the politics of that region.
I do believe that when religions are at odds and territory is involved, little by way of peace can be expected.

Again, thank you, @Northwest.
I knew the "abraham accords" were nothing more than window dressing. A reason, maybe, for jared to spend time developing financial support.
Boiled down past the nuances, religion and territory.

A reason, maybe, for jared to spend time developing financial support.

And, he did. Just as soon as his father in law was of the office, Jared started a venture capital firm, with $0 from his own pockets.

The UAE dropped $2B in the fund, and the Saudis $500M. He's got zero VC experience, about the same amount of experience he had, when his father in law, put him in charge of just about everything.

This ought to be illegal, but that's effectively how Trump drained the swamp.

Steven Mnuchin also started a find, and the Saudis dropped hundreds of $Ms into it.

@Northwest another 500 million i think i read, for mnuchin.
Draining the swamp was just another three word catch phrase. Which of course are at the core of the trump political stance.

There's absolutely no possibility of any kind of peace b/w Israel and Palestine unless one of them completely overtakes another. Any kind of peace treaty is only a gimmick in Asia especially when muslim territories are involved. What would be really interesting to see that how would Israel handle the situation if Iran got hand on nukes which they would eventually in coming decades.

Abbas has previously stirred up controversy for remarks on the Holocaust, including a 2018 claim that Jewish “social behavior” — not antisemitism — was the cause of Nazi Germany’s genocide of European Jews, which he later "apologized" for.

He routinely spits in the faces of millions of innocent victims of anti-Semitism, only to apologize the other day.
