Ah HAH! I caught 'em

Apparently Cracker Barrel added plant-based Impossible sausage to their menu.

To hear NBC tell it, this seemingly simple action sparked a culture war, garnering 'thousands' of comments and arguments between customers.

Well, yeah, technically true. At the time of the article, 5600 comments.

There are 667 Cracker Barrel restaurants.

This means if there were no repeat commenters, not quite 9 comments per restaurant.

That isn't even a culture skirmish.

They won't rest until everybody hates everybody for something.
It's interesting how these things become cultural war fronts.

People are so collapsed in their own shit it doesn't occur to them that there might be other dimensions.

Like the company trying to make money.

And maybe Bob wants vegan sausage. Not because he's woke but because he's had a quad bypass and doesn't want another one.
@DrWatson Well, that’s the thing. I grew up around Italian and Lebanese influences. It was just as you say. Nobody would think it was vegetarian to eat any number of things. Abstaining from meat was also a regularly practiced thing. Lent, Fridays. Every restaurant could pull off vegetarian.
@Mamapolo2016 In my freezer I have a pound of Italian hot sausage, a pound of ground beef, a box of black bean veggie burgers, a bag of falafel, and a bag of fake ground beef. 🤷‍♂️
@CopperCicada Prepared for contingencies.

So people can order vegetarian meals if they wish. And people can order meals with meat if they wish.

Yeah, that's worth fighting about. Sure.
NBC suggested it involved ageism and veganism and carnivorism. I think it's safe to assume 9 customers per Cracker Barrel are simply loony tunes.@DrWatson

@Mamapolo2016 Anyone I've ever known who thinks it's a good restaurant IS looney tunes.

Comments on Facebook were priceless.

I see what you mean, sort of. Yet, NBC and and other news outlets were just reporting what did actually happen when Cracker Barrel made the announcement on Facebook, in the articles I could find.
In a general way, I guess the differences in views about plant-based meat alternatives could be considered a culture war. Even the mention of a "Meatless Monday" in public schools has resulted in hateful backlash, and verbal skirmishes. Same with even the mention of plant-based "meat". I've been seeing that for over a decade, just on the few social media sites I've been on.
@Piper It's a case of magnitude. 5600 messages does not a culture war make.

@Mamapolo2016 True, and I guess we must have read a different NBC article.

Perception is everything. I remember sitting through a staff meeting and the commander was reaming us out because we got 3 complaints during the month about slow response times. I started laughing. During any given month we had over 5000 calls for service, and 3 complaints in 5000 seemed like a ridiculously small number to me. Then again it wasn't my phone ringing with the people complaining in my ear. My laughter was NOT appreciated.

Pete's sake. Impossible plant based burgers and sausage are JUST as bad for people and have JUST as many bad fats and chemicals as real burgers and sausage, and actually taste almost the same...(like a flat unseasoned McDonalds patty or a slightly deficient underspiced sausage patty), so I don't know what anyone is complaining about. It's not like they took the real thing off the menu. You can be fat and unhealthy with either one of those choices...🤣

When there is so much tragedy, corruption, and injustice in the world to be concerned about, why are people so worked up about plant based meats? I'll never understand this. What's bad about eating plants? Lol
@Scribbles My point was, they're NOT all that worked up. NBC presented it as though they are.

I begin to suspect we're being groomed to accept any bizarre behavior so when our so-called leaders in DC behave like rabid hyenas we won't notice.

Pokémon? 👀👀
Rilyn · 31-35, F
@Mamapolo2016 I will. What do we drink? 🌹
@Rilyn Me? Decaf Iced tea with Splenda.

You? I'm thinking something simple so we don't concern ourselves mathematically about 1/4 c this and 2 oz that.
Rilyn · 31-35, F
@Mamapolo2016 Coming up. I'll get one too. Haha. Let's just get a movie and throw away the math. Chill gal time 🌹☺️

Just the dumbest thing to get mad at. The reason it's new is they couldn't make vegetarian sausage taste good before. But okay society is crumbling something
JimboSaturn · 51-55, M
Yes we must stop sensationalizing these things. I guess conflict increases ratings.
JimboSaturn · 51-55, M
Must everything be politicized? It's just a menu choice lol
@JimboSaturn 'Zactly.
