I think we are all fed up with corrupt governments throughout the world. I am surprised this hasn’t happened in more places!
cherokeepatti · 61-69, F
@Stefanv exactly!
Longpatrol · 31-35, M
It's not just that. The situation in Sri Lanka is fucked. They're heavily in debt and the government does not have money to pay for basic services. Years of mismanagement and corruption.

@Longpatrol are you Sri Lankan?
Longpatrol · 31-35, M
Covid is probably the thing they're least concerned with since most of them are having trouble putting food on the table. I've been following events in Sri Lanka since the war ended and could see that a tipping point would come soon, especially since that bonkers port deal with China. @cherokeepatti Given the Rajapaksas are murderous thugs who did not know anything about honour in victory, it's expected they'd not know honour in peace.

@willshare No I'm not, I'm Singaporean, but I grew up studying about the Sri Lankan Civil War
LunarOrbit · 56-60, M
They don’t want to die because of govt restrictions. They already have a hard time to support their families
FreestyleArt · 31-35, M
Yep and I'm loving it. I wish it happen in California

@FreestyleArt And Canada.

There is food and fuel shortages in Sri Lanka caused entirely by government malfeasance. I have no idea if any one government employee is responsible for any part of it but at least the bureaucrats are being held to account.
Changeisgonnacome · 61-69, F
@hippyjoe1955 banks are involved.
hippyjoe1955 · 61-69, M
@Changeisgonnacome Yes there are lots of inputs to the crisis. Sadly Sri Lanka will not be alone if the bad guys get their way.
GeniUs · 56-60, M
but don't take it out on Civil Servants!
UnderLockDown · M
@GeniUs Depends, are the civil servants part of the problem? Do they have a better life due to manipulation? Do they watch their fellow citizens suffer and allow it to continue because they don't care about the conditions if they are not subjected to them?
GeniUs · 56-60, M
@UnderLockDown I did think about this when posting but usually the average CS is not benefitting from anything except having a job. Different countries I know but I went for 'benefit of the doubt'.

...and cars. They were dumping politicians cars into near by river
Changeisgonnacome · 61-69, F
There's government imposed debt and austerity in the background, too. But that's not a conservative talking point at all! You better stick to the talking points.
