How do you feel about "Red Flag" laws?

In my state, a few years ago, we had a school shooting. The security guard was on campus but did not to engage the shooter and by his inaction many students may have died. Within a few weeks, our "Republican" governor and state legislatures pushed through a "Red Flag" law. My state rewarded our governor by electing him to the US Senate.

A quick Google check suggests it’s a measure to prevent suicides.

@ShellSeeker In that case, our governor at the time and both state legislatures were really confused, because they enacted one to combat school shootings.
@ProfessorPlum77 That’s a justifiable reason to in my opinion.

@ShellSeeker The problem is that IF there's going to be red flag laws they need to be set up so that your neighbor can't call in anonymous complaints just because they don't like you or like guns. A mechanism needs to be in place, at the very least, so that the burden in on the government to prove you are some how a threat or incompetent to have guns, and if it turns out that isn't the case then the government is obligated to return whatever property was taken RIGHT THEN, not six months or six years later, not after you prove great grandfathers muzzle loader was purchased legally and you are the rightful owner, not after some undetermined waiting period, and not after you've had to hire a lawyer and paid out thousands to get your property back. It would be really nice if there was an actual punishment for anyone caught knowingly making false reports as well.

That's why people object to red flag laws. Unless something is put in place to protect gun owners from false reporting it could quickly turn into a gun grabbers wet dream. And this is before we even consider the fact such laws have already proven deadly to innocent people who were for all practical purposes were "swatted" by family members who had an axe to grind.
@robb65 Meh. No I’m fine with it.

@ShellSeeker Like I said, there's the problem. That's why nothing ever gets done. One group wants to do something like right now regardless of whether or not it does anything to help the problem or who it hurts while the other group shakes their head and laughs.
@robb65 No. Most Americans want a set of gun reforms, both from gun-owning and non-gun-owning households:
