Yes, and it is important to draw attention to this so as not to distort reality.
Not the same issue, but related to perceptions of where danger lies: Growing up in the 1960s and 70s in Canada I had a vague impression that there was a lot of violence being carried out by Black people in the USA, because of media images of ghetto riots. But the fact was and is that there has been a consistent history of much more violence carried out by White people against Black people. This horrible shooting in Buffalo is just the latest example.
Before you can work out how to make things better, there has to be some understanding of the facts.
@SW-User you're very right that many people form opinions on what the media shows them regardless of what the actual statistics show, but it's going the opposite way now, mostly via police shootings.
Black on white violent crime is drastically more prevalent than white on black today too.
