Is Using An IUD The Same As Abortion?

As I was driving the other day, I was listening to a Sisriux FM channel, and they were covering a hearing from the Louisiana House of reps, where a legislator was arguing that an IUD is akin to murdering a child, and wanted it added to the list of things a woman would be accused of (murder), if she chose an IUD.

His argument was that an IUD works by preventing a fertilized egg from sticking to the uterus wall, therefore it's killing a baby, because a sperm fertilized an egg and the IUD aborts it.

I thought I was in the Twilight Zone. A Democrat legislator was trying to argue that this makes no sense....

It logically makes no sense but that's not republican's end goal, their end goal is no abortion and then they'll come after birth control. They have a taste of power so birth control is next in line after abortion. Pretty soon it will be women's reproductive care costs will also be cut, that's third in line. In countries with abortion outlawed, contraceptives are also harder to get and thus more over populated because the Catholic Church dictates sexual policies and people DO listen because they are indoctrinated from when the church colonized their lands and then successfully mass indoctrinated tribes. Now, everyone and their ancestors are conservative and Catholic in countries where abortion is fully illegalized, even in cases of rape.

Those countries are what you want to look at for what they truly want and what they're going after. Their end goal is no abortion AND no birth control because birth control is technically abortion to them. I've heard this time and time again from them and I knew it was coming.

@SatanBurger They will come after birth control, because they fear the Great Replacement is happening.
When you see an (R) after someone's name on the ballot.......

It means (R)EJECT

@Threepio Or replace.

There was a senator several years ago who stated a woman can only get pregnant if she orgasms, hence, if she gets pregnant and “claims” rape she is lying because she enjoyed it.

Or, there’s the one who said treating an ectopic pregnancy is abortion and should not be treated.

Women, and men who love their women, should fear for their future reproductive rights and safety.

@Pinkstarburst

There was a senator several years ago who stated a woman can only get pregnant if she orgasms, hence, if she gets pregnant and “claims” rape she is lying because she enjoyed it.

That would be the late Todd "If it's legitimate rape, the female body has ways to try to shut the whole thing down" Akin, a Republican from Missouri. He Missouri's 2nd congressional district from 2001 to 2013. He declared, when he was campaigning for the US Senate, that rape/pregnancy is legitimate if a woman wants it. He died last year, but prescribed to medieval medical beliefs.

Or, there’s the one who said treating an ectopic pregnancy is abortion and should not be treated.

That would be Missouri state representative Brian Seitz introduced HB 2810 back in March.

Women, and men who love their women, should fear for their future reproductive rights and safety.

Yes they should.

@Northwest Thank you for the leg work. I always remember their statements but can never remember their names.
Northwest · M
@Pinkstarburst I remember the coverage from the time he made that statement, during the run-up to the 2012 elections.

It's easy to dismiss it as individual lunacy, but these types of statements are typically the tip if the iceberg. I fear the part that's going to rip the Titanic apart.
And that’s an example of how they criminalize birth control.
justanothername · 51-55, M
No, an IUD is designed to prevent a woman getting pregnant which would mean that there would be no need for an abortion.
The birth control pill is another “less invasive”” type of IUD. It’s just trickier because you need to remember to take it each day.

The Republican senator is clearly has no understanding of how human reproduction works. He obviously missed the human reproduction section of biology during high school. I’m thinking most Republicans never had any formal education through out their formative years.
No, it's not. And even if it were, the vast majority of Americans favor choice.

On abortion, clearly the unspoken right wing agenda is a full ban. This talk of "leave it to the states" is a self-serving lie. And their full ban on abortion will be less successful than Prohibition.

Here's a recent demographic poll. A higher percentage of women support choice than men, especially women of child bearing age.

Abortions in the US are on a long term decrease

What does the public think?

The public wants to keep abortions legal.
TheeRoyalBee · 31-35, F
Been wondering about what they're going to do about the IUD if it passes because women who have them, those last up to 10 years so... it's crazy, also discussion about giving LIFE to people who take abortion pills/get abortions. LIFE? you don't even get life when you kill a person.
TheeRoyalBee · 31-35, F
@LordShadowfire ok true it varies I don't know I saw 15 years for manslaughter, I seen someone get 8years. this article for abortion says life sentence, it's not clear.
Northwest · M
@TheeRoyalBee What some of us see as beyond absurd, is serious business for them. They think of the Handmaids Tale as a feel good movice.
LordShadowfire · 46-50, M
@TheeRoyalBee I met a guy who outwitted the whole life sentence thing, lol. He was serving life plus 25, had a heart attack, and was legally declared dead before they revived him. Motherfucker immediately lawyered up and proved in court that he had served his life sentence. 😆
it should be illegal for a man to have an opinion about abortions
What's the bet that someone will come up with a miscarriage drug on the black market?
And can I call that market 'black' these days of PC madness?
windinhishair · 61-69, M
Two men debating an issue they know little or nothing about that has a huge impact on women and their rights to their own bodies.
CrazyMusicLover · 31-35
Fucking power tripping psychopaths. Shoot it before it will start doing mass harm everywhere.
SW-User
It's scary that these legislators have no understanding of how the female reproduction system works nor what an IUD is nor what it actually does. All they've been taught is women are meant to be baby making machines.
ninalanyon · 61-69, T
@SW-User
these legislators have no understanding of how the female reproduction system works
Are you sure? That seems a rather charitable assumption. It seems to me that no one could be that ignorant; it seems more likely to me that they really are as malicious as they sound.
Elessar · 26-30, M
I've said it. They won't stop at abortion, as soon as they're done with it they'll move on contraception.

Welcome to Gilead
Jenny1234 · 51-55, F
I did hear this on the radio also. I changed the channel. It’s ridiculous
@Jenny1234 i agree but the problem is i thought it was ridiculous discussing people making abortions illegal ever again...and here we are
robb65 · 56-60, M
I almost think this is being talked about in Mississippi as well.
LordShadowfire · 46-50, M
@robb65 Goddamn...
LordShadowfire · 46-50, M
It is if you're a complete fucking idiot who doesn't know the difference.
LordShadowfire · 46-50, M
This is the Twilight Zone.

@CopperCicada According to some of the nuns that taught me; masterbation is a sin because those sperm could fertilize an egg and we’re interrupting God’s plan. So, is that also on the list too?
