Elon Musk calls out Twitter boondoggle

He knows nonsense when he sees it

Tesla CEO Elon Musk Thinks a New Twitter Might Be Needed

"Is a new platform needed?" Musk shared on the platform he was talking about.

Mahatma Gandhi once said, "Be the change you wish to see in the world."

Not sure Gandhi had the capitalist world of business and economics and billionaires in mind. Or, perhaps one billionaire in particular.

Tesla (TSLA) - Get Tesla Inc Report Chief Executive, or the "Technoking of Tesla," as he likes to call himself, Elon Musk has been advocating for significant changes to be made at social media platform Twitter (TWTR) - Get Twitter, Inc. Report over the last 24 to 48 hours.

Musk's Twitter feed is a digital soiree and his nearly 80 million followers never forget to chime in.

Musk recently tweeted that "Twitter is failing to adhere to free speech principles" and is thereby undermining democracy."

He went ahead and asked if Twitter needed a new rival.

Twitter is definitely against free speech so I say yes
@jackjjackson the subject is musk trashing twitter for doing exsctly what he does. If it hurts your feelings to see musk isn't a god then by all means block me.

@MrBrownstone What's hilarious is how the unmoderated platforms like Gab are full of neo-Nazis and jihadis.
Why would I want to block a nice lady like you 🤠 @SooperSarah

Good luck with that. The problem is that everyone who matters is already on Twitter. If you want to follow your favorite celebrity, that's where you'll find them. It would be like starting another auction site because you don't like ebay. There are already unmoderated platforms like Gab, or Parler that is also censors users, just left wing ones, while Twitter censors both left and right wingers who violate ToS.

Trump just started his own platform, TruthSocial; what happened with that?

Anyway, if Musk wants to waste his money starting an unnecessary social media company, that's fine.

@jackjjackson I neither trust nor distrust it. It's just a way for celebrities and politicians to make short statements for their fans to read. That's all it is. And if you violate the terms of service you agreed to when you signed up, they close your account. Which they have every right to do as a private business. Free speech does not include being given a free venue at someone else's expense.
The “private business” thing is the question then for them, Facebook, google who have some much market control as to be monopolies. Antitrust actions will eventually sort it out after 2024. All of these sorts of things should not have a bias. @Lila15

@jackjjackson That would be punishing them for being too popular. Thre are already platforms like Gab and GETTR that are not moderated, so you can always get on one of those. What you want is the best of both worlds - universal reach with no moderation. Breaking up Facebook wouldn’t work, either. What if half of my friends were on the other part of it? I’d just join both to make sure I followed everyone. You’d end up with two duplicate Facebooks.

Also, Facebook censors liberals, too. The problem with social media isn’t censorship, it’s the lack of censorship. Terrorists use FB groups to plan attacks, and they get away with it because Zuckerberg is too cheap to hire monitors who speak those languages. That’s a bigger problem than Ben Shapiro being banned.

His idea of free speech is "buy, buy, buy", which has been and is being done for the last few decades on the internet.

All you have to do is look at any ad on any website including Twitter!

Get rid of all ads all together and just see him gripe about free speech!

By his standards more ads = more content! And why he is griping at all!

Twitter, FB, IG all of them are banning certain ads!

Which actually is a good thing. A website should have the right not show things they don't agree with!

It's their website after all! That is the websites free speech! Don't like it, don't use it!

And why I don't use any of those websites!
I’m with you these websites are trash. Don’t use em. @DeWayfarer

Read today that Musk has been buying Twitter stock and has an almost 10% stake in the company and is now the biggest shareholder.
The takeover and takedown is off and running. @eli1601

Im not sold on his cars being the solution. I do like his take on many things, such as this.
Absolutely. I am not endorsing the cars. @checkoutanytime

competition is is healthy
No biased Twitter is even healthier. @Khenpal1
The original Twitter isn't "needed," so a new one with less traffic certainly isn't "needed" either.

Parler was supposed to be a free speech version of Twitter, and I was banned from it almost immediately. Gab and GETTR are supposedly unmoderated, and they're full of Nazis and jihadis. I'm not sure how to respond if your idea of "free speech" is to tolerate people who want to kill you.
I don’t and won’t endorse anything with a political bias. @LeopoldBloom

Even better would be to buy Twitter and fire all the tech weenies
