"Is a new platform needed?" Musk shared on the platform he was talking about.

Mahatma Gandhi once said, "Be the change you wish to see in the world."

Not sure Gandhi had the capitalist world of business and economics and billionaires in mind. Or, perhaps one billionaire in particular.

Tesla (TSLA) - Get Tesla Inc Report Chief Executive, or the "Technoking of Tesla," as he likes to call himself, Elon Musk has been advocating for significant changes to be made at social media platform Twitter (TWTR) - Get Twitter, Inc. Report over the last 24 to 48 hours.

Musk's Twitter feed is a digital soiree and his nearly 80 million followers never forget to chime in.

Musk recently tweeted that "Twitter is failing to adhere to free speech principles" and is thereby undermining democracy."

He went ahead and asked if Twitter needed a new rival.

Good luck with that. The problem is that everyone who matters is already on Twitter. If you want to follow your favorite celebrity, that's where you'll find them. It would be like starting another auction site because you don't like ebay. There are already unmoderated platforms like Gab, or Parler that is also censors users, just left wing ones, while Twitter censors both left and right wingers who violate ToS.

Trump just started his own platform, TruthSocial; what happened with that?

Anyway, if Musk wants to waste his money starting an unnecessary social media company, that's fine.

You’ve never seen me on Twitter. I do not trust it. @Lila15
@Lila15 I wish I could tell you what's happening with TruthSocial, but I joined it right after it started and am still at the same point on the waiting list after a month with no movement. I think Trump forgot about it. From what I hear, even Trump doesn't post on it.

I didn’t bother like I did not bother with Facebook, Twitter, Instagram or any similar site. LinkedIn is as far as I will go and that’s just it’s a work requirement. @LeopoldBloom

@jackjjackson I neither trust nor distrust it. It's just a way for celebrities and politicians to make short statements for their fans to read. That's all it is. And if you violate the terms of service you agreed to when you signed up, they close your account. Which they have every right to do as a private business. Free speech does not include being given a free venue at someone else's expense.

The “private business” thing is the question then for them, Facebook, google who have some much market control as to be monopolies. Antitrust actions will eventually sort it out after 2024. All of these sorts of things should not have a bias. @Lila15

@jackjjackson That would be punishing them for being too popular. Thre are already platforms like Gab and GETTR that are not moderated, so you can always get on one of those. What you want is the best of both worlds - universal reach with no moderation. Breaking up Facebook wouldn’t work, either. What if half of my friends were on the other part of it? I’d just join both to make sure I followed everyone. You’d end up with two duplicate Facebooks.

Also, Facebook censors liberals, too. The problem with social media isn’t censorship, it’s the lack of censorship. Terrorists use FB groups to plan attacks, and they get away with it because Zuckerberg is too cheap to hire monitors who speak those languages. That’s a bigger problem than Ben Shapiro being banned.
